    new player job help

Hello. Just started playing yesterday, and I'm hoping to clear up some confusion on the job system as I am new to ff style leveling. So I started as a conjurer, do I level to 30, then pick up my arcanist job and start from 1-15 back in the starting zones? And when that is complete do you go back to level 30 ad a white mage or start from 1? Cause unless I'm reading this wrong, you don't level conjuring to 50 fight off the start?

Sorry probably a silly question, but I am a tad confused. I got conjurer to 16 or so last night and wanted to keep going but was a not sure on the right path to take. And Should I save all the side quests for other jobs I want to level later on? Will the main quest and dungeons go to 50 without too much trouble?

    Thank you in advance !

You are looking at it the wrong way.
Take Whitemage for example. To become a Whitemage you must have a level 30 Conjurer level AND level 15 Arcanist on the same character.

You can switch back and forth between the jobs without any drawback (Besides skills being on CD when in the field). Once you are leveling a job you only gain XP for that job.
You retain all levels you gained in previous jobs. Simply switch weapons and you will switch to that job.

My advice? Get a little of all caster levels or a little of all fighter levels. Some skills can be used on other classes (crossclass skills).
For a healer, Swiftcast from Thaumaturge is a godsend for example.

Hope this clears things up a bit

For a single job (White Mage) you are basically leveling 3 classes: your base class (Conjurer) and your two subclasses (Arcanist and Thaumaturge). You can unlock your job when you reach level 30 on your base class (Conjurer) and additionally you will need to have one of the two subclasses (Arcanist) at level 15. After unlocking White Mage, your White Mage level will always be the same than your Conjurer level, so you're leveling both your White Mage and Conjurer at the same time no matter which you're currently on (if you have your White Mage soulstone equiped or not). For 99,9%+ of the time you will want to be on White Mage though.

When you change from class to job, you will only be able to use cross class abilities from the two subclasses of your job. As White Mage, in addition to using White Mage and Conjurer abilities, you can select additional abilities from Arcanist and Thaumaturge. This is why you will want to level both your subclasses in addition to your base class: to be able to use the best abilities they can offer. As White Mage, you will want at least Eye for an Eye (level 34) and Virus (level 12) from Arcanist, Swiftcast (level 26) and Surecast (level 8) from Thaumaturge. In short, to have a fully powerful White Mage, you will level Conjurer (as White Mage after level 30) to 50, Arcanist (as Scholar or Summoner after level 30) to 34, and Thaumaturge to level 26.

You are able to level all the classes and jobs on single character and can freely change classes / jobs any time after you reach level 10 on your first class. Changing classes is as simple as changing your weapon (although you need to unlock each class by visiting their guild first). Whenever you're on a class that isn't your highest level one, you will receive an exp bonus for it. Each class gets its own individual set of 30 attribute points (Scholar and Summoner share those 30 points as both are based on Arcanist class).

Your Whitemage tops on the Conjurer. If you unlocked it you start from level 30 the xp you get will add to the baseclass conjurer and your whitemage will level along and you get all class skills for the job as well available.
Your job has a job quest where you get nice additional skills all 5 levels so its 30, 35, 40, 45 (first bits of AF gear ) and level 50.
Once completed the level 50 quest you can start the relic.

Also you will want for endgame some certain crosskills (leaving to you if you level along the way or once you hit 50) that means to bring the arcanist to level 34 for eye for an eye, virus / thaumaturge to level 26 for swiftcast and surecast.

Besides that you generally dont want to ever switch back to class unless the level 30 conjurer quest where you get the white unicorn and later for the fun

You start out leveling 'classes' (ie. Conjurer, Gladiator, Archer to name a few). Most jobs (ie. Paladin, White Mage, Bard again to name a few) are unlocked by leveling a main job to level 30 and a secondary job to level 15. For White Mage, you need to level Conjurer to 30 & Arcanist to 15 and then complete a quest which gives you a soul stone to equip to become a WHM.
This is true for all jobs currently except Rogue to Ninja which doesn't require a secondary job (and neither will the new jobs coming in the Heavensward expansion).

Using WHM again as an example, once you unlock the job it will be at the level of the main class for that job. Meaning that if your CNJ is level 30 when you unlock WHM, your WHM will start at level 30 and both WHM & CNJ will level together. Although once you unlock the job (WHM) there is very little reason to use the class (CNJ).

As for your quest question, it's entirely up to you. Some people use all the quests they can find to level their first character and others will save some quests for any other classes/jobs they level.
It is relatively easy to level a job to 50 with a combination of quests, fates, dungeons, leves & hunting logs without using up all the quests available.

Welcome to Eorzea and I hope you enjoy the game

You've got it correct except for one point: WHM level is tied to your CNJ level, so it will "start" (resume) from level 30.

Also, the order is flexible. For example: You can get Arcanist to level 15 in advance, if you want, and then go get level 30 on CNJ.

If it helps, think of WHM as the "upgrade" version of your Conjurer. It's all one class, and you only take it from 1-50 - but after a certain point you get a promotion to White Mage. (There's very, very little reason to ever go back to just base Conjurer)
