    Possibly job change, need advice

Hey guys and gals! I was looking for a bit of advice. I have a lvl 50 SUM and SCH, and a 43 NIN. Thing is, Idk, I guess I really don't like how many NIN's there are running around. There are soooooo many. I like SUM SCH but, it's sort of bland, you know? I LOVED it a year a go, but I'm sort of looking for something different (I'm so indecisive). I was thinking Tank, or DRG. I have a 30 PLD that I loved. Haven't touched him in over a year. I don't have a real question.. Could you describe your main class?

I started the game as a summoner, which I mained for 5 months. Eventually I switched my main to bard for a couple months until ninja came out and I switched my main to that.

I too was irritated with the insane amount of ninjas everywhere, and decided I didn't want to main something that was so abundant. So I switched to monk.

Eventually though, I said, "why should I care that there's a lot of ninjas?" And decided I would main ninja.
I consider myself to be a good if not great ninja and that's all that matters.

There are a LOT of ninjas on my server, but I play better than majority of them.
Theres a LOT of ninjas, but only a handful of truly great ones.

I realize that you're asking about tanks but... a big part of the incentive for me to play healers is I don't have a rotation.

    Every ability is situational.

The downside is it means some dungeons can basically amount to occasionally tapping your cure/physick button. On the upside, if you want to be a really good, raid capable healer, there's stuff like virus, e4e, fey's covenant--bunches of abilities that rarely get used. And figuring where to squeeze in that one more succor which, even if it's not really necessary, makes the WHM's job easier. Pushing myself/the job to its limit is fun/satisfying for me.

Tanks I am less knowledgeable about. I've been messing with PLD a bit, because I like the idea of a heavily defensive tank, but there are many complaints that it's boring. If you're looking for a more active playstyle, WAR could be worth looking into from all I hear about it.

Despite their reputation, a good DRG utterly demolishes mobs.

I main Paladin. Some people say it's boring, but I don't find it to be so. It's the safer of the two tanks because you have a lot of defensive cooldowns and all of them are off the GCD, which makes me a lot more comfortable going into fights I don't know. There's just something wonderfully fun about being all but indestructible. The big down side of either tank class is your low damage if you go with a standard vit build. It feels like you're beating mobs with a wet noodle. I've gone over to a very aggressive build (crit/det instead of parry, pentamelded accessories). In the end, it's really made my character a lot more enjoyable.

I never tried a really offensive build on my paladin, it might be fun.
I used to like paladin, but I kinda got bored with the small numbers and no aoe damage, then I rolled a war and never looked back.

If you are into leading the group and calling out mechanics, PLD is for you. There is very little to focus on in terms of what you're actually doing, so you have a lot of wiggle room to just look around and see what's going on. The main thing you do as a PLD (aside from 123) is plan your defensive CDs - that's basically all you've got going on. I personally don't find PLD fun, I play it when I want to turn my brain off, but some people find it engaging so I wouldn't just listen to me. I'd recommend trying out WAR as well, but if you don't have the time/luxury to do that then rolling PLD isn't a bad idea if you've had fun with it.

I started as a PLD and that is what I consider my main. She goes in to all new content and progressions as she is the most reliable. I wanted to DPS so I picked up BLM. OMG I love that. Then moved to BRD and on down the chain. I will say my go to jobs are, PLD/WAR(depending on content and need) BLM, NIN, BRD, SCH.

I keep the others updated due to sharing gear and what not, and DRG / MNK have become my red heads.

Give em a go and see what tickles your facy the most.

I actually see why people call Glad/PLD as a consequence one of the most boring classes in the game.

But there is something...comforting as a newbie tank about playing as one. Warriors are very busy with their rotations and GCDs, and seem to have much less wiggle room. If I forget a mechanic in a fight, I usually just pay attention for any on-screen text or pan my view around to see if I'm not missing something. Honestly, I am tempted to go back and get Marauder up and try Warrior, but I'm still not wholly sure. One of the merits of running Paladin is that you can cover other people's mistakes too, literally, by taking the damage for them :P
