So with the expansion coming up and the changes to the LB system incoming I had a thought about how I'd change the system.
Now from what I understand, the LB animations are changing but the LB itself is going to remain the same. E.G. SMN and BLM are still both going to use "meteor" but the SMN version will probably be changed to look like a primal or something.
But I was thinking what if they did a complete overhaul of the system instead? My idea is based on the Quickening system from FFXII and skill chains from FFXI.
Instead of a party wide shared LB gauge, give us individual LB's with animations based on our class/job. But these LB's won't be like the current ones, they'll all be attacks, strong ones, 500 potency or so. When used in succession by 3 people the last person to use their LB will have a chance to activate a concurrence effect by pressing the limit break button again. These concurrence effects would be the current LBs.
When solo-3 man, we would get the level 1 gauge, in a light party we would get the level 2 gauge and in a full party we would get the level 3 gauge. All levels would be the same potency but with different animations and would activate the stronger concurrence effects based on the level of the gauge of the last person to activate their LB. Once a Concurrence is used the party will get a debuff similar to that of virus and apocatastasis that prevents another concurrence from being used for 5 minutes. The individual LBs can still be used for damage though.
Some examples:
3 man party- level 1 gauges- PLD opens with seraph blade(level 1), WHM follows up with retribution(level 1), DRG closes with dragon fang(level 1). Concurrence effect- DRG can use braver.
4 man party- level 2 gauges- SCH opens with omniscience(level 1), BLM follows up with arcane bolt(level 1), PLD closes with shining wave(level 2). Concurrence effect- PLD can use mighty guard.
8 man party- level 3 gauges- BLM opens with scourge(level 2), WAR follows up with fell cleave(level 1), WHM closes with wrath of the elementals(level 3). Concurrence effect- WHM can use pulse of life.
