Possibly, I could see them having 1 stack of aetherflow and energy drain(?)
It wouldn't surprise me if Arcanist was one of the jobs it can cross class from.



It will probably have a base amount of MP with the mechanic behind the class being the deciding factor on it's usage. (No reason to have extra PIE on gear TBH)
It could have some very strong defensive skills with other abilities that recover the MP, thus limiting your total usage of the defensive skills without planning accordingly. I couldn't see it being a straight up -> Convert Damage taken to MP loss.
As for stacking PIE to unbalance the class if that is the case. On Tank/Melee accessories the amount of PIE you can meld is limited compared to melding a Mage Accessory. Also if it only gets 7 MP/Pie like most classes, you would have to severely gimp your class for the added MP.

Ballad would be interesting though, but why would you gimp your Mages (Foes) to give the tank more MP?

I thought the same as Xero RE: Ballad, but then it occurred to me that at some point Ballad is going to be played in any fight where resources start to run dry. You certainly won't get Ballad more than your healers, but you'd get it when you need it if DRK has no way of replenishing MP.
PIE is probably going to be limited to melded gear, though that greatly depends on how DRK uses MP (ie, Det/Crt/etc might still severely outweigh PIE). If it's for occasional spells, I don't see PIE being useful unless it meets some threshold where you get to cast an extra [something] with that MP - like all that experimenting that was done with BLM and Fire 1.
Based on past jobs, I think that if SE were smart, DRK should have a resource management system akin to WAR's Wrath or SMN/SCH's Aetherflow that uses blood. You cost yourself X amount of life to gain 1 stack, capping out at say... 3. Each stack could be used to do something different: a defensive ability, an offensive ability, and something to enhance MP based spells/drain MP. That way, similar to WAR, you're forced to make decisions - when is it good to take extra damage? When is it good to use your defensive ability over your offensive one? etc. etc. It would be nice to have some risk in tanking that paid off with proper planning, and I think DRK's motif fits that perfectly. Since it's purely a job, that opens up a lot of possibilities for what abilities it can have as they don't have to relate to any previous class, they can all be DRK abilities of some kind.
I kinda hope that DK's being the Magic tank means a rework is on the way for Paladins. Flash would be so much more useful if it was tied to TP instead of MP. For starters, pallies could use it more often and stop worrying about AOE threat. Making flash dependant on mana but giving paladin's a clunky method of regenerating mana that consumes two GCD's has unfairly gimped the class's AOE threat potential

You guys are getting carried away with how you think DK gearing is going to work. Dark Knights will probably get a talent that converts strength into intelligence, possibly through their tanking stance. The devs aren't going to waste their time making DK specific armor outside of their relic set. Why would they? Too much work.

As previously mentioned i was hoping pally would be more mp focused but i guess it will either be more of the same or it could be a stance dancer.

lets hope thier gear is not INT or PIE based as that would mean even more rng loot on the table thus making it nearly impossible to gear this class raidwise except if they rework the way loot is handed out on raids.... guess we have to wait and see. hopefully we get more info on drk before the release.
now that is clear that most endgame content will remain blocked for 14 weeks there will be 1000ths of drks beeing playing at launch on each server since coolest new class by far. and definitly coolest tank class yet.
I doubt they designed DRK to be way overpowered compared to WAR/PLD. Surely it will be a bit to attract more new players (same goes for the other two jobs). Just marketing strategies. Anything excessive will be
adjusted.
Or we can wait until we can play it and discuss it from there.
