    Foliage/Grass/Shadow issue. flickering/shimmering

    Hi.

The problem: When the camera moves, everything starts to shimmer/flicker - above all the foliage- and grass-textures. It's really annoying. At first in Ul'dah it wasn't that bad, but after leaving the city into the - more or less - open areas, it started to feel very distracting.

Trees and grass in the distance are just a bunch of flickering and moving pixels. The closer I get, there more it turns into a constant texture shimmering. I tried to find a solution but there were several unresolved topics over the web with the same problem.

Some people even said it is kind of an engine thing and everyone is experiencing it. I can't believe that.

Another problem is that it only occurs when the camera is moving, so I can't take a screenshot.

The whole last night I reinstalled drivers, reset settings, let GeForce Experience optimize the game, tried the options in the control panel... everything. But nothing helps. I can't enjoy the game with this problem.

I'm using a GeForce GTX 670, everything maxed ingame @1080p Fullscreen (also tried lower settings).

Anyone knows what to do to get rid of this issue?

    Thank you!

It's normal for every games, unless you use SMAA/ TXAA.

FXAA is still okay for Antialiasing. It has been like this for 20 years.

yeah... I generally turn things like grass detail down as a default thing anymore because of it. Often one of the first settings I'll look for to toggle off. It gets really bad in some games with the trees--especially when the sun shines through them, or during the transitions between day and night. If you can cope with the pop-ins, sometimes you can negate a good bit of the shimmer/flicker if you ramp up the mip-mapping (low details on distant objects)...but you may just be trading one annoyance for another, so your mileage may vary.

Hmmm. Never experienced it this bad since there are 3D graphics. So it can't be nowhere near 'normal'. It's really annoying. My friends eyes hurts after a short session for example. FXAA is a really bad solution by iteself and it doesn't change anything here, on or off.

It's normal for FFXIV ARR, it's not normal for the industry. Unfortunately, a lot of implementations of things in FFXIV seem rushed but there's a chance things will improve with the new DX11 client that we will hopefully get a release date for today via PAX East.

Is it possible the Ram on your GPU is running hot/unstable overclocked?
