I'm not sure, but I know limitations helps create an economy for a MMO. Doing this for FFXIV is all well and good but it won't matter if they never allow crafted gear to beat unique gear in stats and continue to make unique gear as easy to obtain as they do. Typically in a healthy game economy, there is a huge need for crafted gear that fills the gap to end game gear, and at times is better in slot than any other item. FFXIV is pretty far away from how FFXI did this, but it can still be done. It has been done to a small extent. But lets face it...the economy sucks for crafters. Items sell at a snail's pace unless it's consumables due to the game's design. I'm not sure there will ever be a point to crafting beyond food and level up gear. I question myself why I still bother. The playerbase stuck around for what it is the game currently. They will not like a major change whatsoever, so crafting will probably always be a waste of time. As long as people can just craft everything themselves, sales will be few and far between.

Specialization will boost sales no doubt about it, but as long as that "I'll just skip crafted stuff and wait it out for tome gear" factor is there...we're all wasting our time. Doesn't mean we'll stop doing it, but it is what it is.

I've updated my comments on Nymeria's wheel. Since you get 20 durability from 8 stacks it means you only need two good/exclenent procs for whistle to be efficient. Getting one satisfaction procs and Nymeria's wheel +20 durability (8 stacks or lower) is the minimum needed to justify the use of whistling (vs CP costs).

What this means is specialist whistling will almost always be efficient with the proposed cycle. Note though, trained hand will be hard to fit in all the time, it definitely requires a CP surplus.

    WARNING TO EVERYONE!!!

It appears there is a BUG in the resolution of whistling hitting 0! It reduces your durability BEFORE applying the progress! This means that if you are at whistle 1 and durability 20 and you get a good/excellent and use Byregot's your item will BREAK.

FYI another big problem I have with the specialist whistle system. The best new skill we were given is Precise Touch: it improves steady hand efficiency, reduces the number of hasty touches required AND reduces the need for costly higher cost durability recovery. Somewhat unfortunately it reduces the entire length of a synth (which is actually nice if you synth ALOT). The problem is this goes directly against the whistle system where you want to increase the length of your synth as much as possible.

Because of this what is happening in my current crafting is I am resorting more and more to my old 4 star method augmented and shorted with Precise touch. Whistle synthing is more complex, slower, and has more range! With this said Whistling does allow for super extended synths. So I'm anticipating using a non-whistle synth for all of my normal high end work and whistle synths for things like books and other super difficult items.

hey thanks for the feed back on these skills so far i've deemed most of them useless and only like precise touch. i've hit 60 on bsm,gsm and carpt and ive tested old rotations on a few end game items and it still works just as fine... these new skills seem flashy and meh. esp the proc ones. i do hope you guys find a better rotation with them but for now im sticking to the old rotations.

i strongly agree with your first post katlyna maybe in future patches with new gears the new skills might be better .but for now if you just use more hq items in your craft most of the lucis crafter's are safe.

I suspect they will become more interesting as ones CP pool gets large enough. But personally speaking I'm HQing everything available right now and I haven't upgraded my accessories yet. Its next on my to-do-list

I just saw with horror my 'careful synthesis II' doing 50% more, or so, than what was intended while having 9 stacks of 'whistle'. I didn't see the count and used CS2 to bait a good condition instead of using satisfaction.

Yes. It ended the synth prematurely. lol. I could repeat this a few times and can confirm it's one of those " Increases the effectiveness of certain crafting actions when the stack size is a multiple of three."

Did anyone else find out an other action affected by this?

I haven't tested many other actions at 9/6/3 but I think you are right. I suspect it affects all progress and quality actions.

this is a long as thread that I won't read, but I think the original post was about worries that omnicrafters are being killed off with specialization.

I just reached "omni" status again a couple days ago, and I have every master book. I don't think there's a whole lot of crafters that can vouch for this right now, but and I just want to assure everyone that you can still make and HQ every single hqable craft on every job, regardless of specialist status, so no omni isn't being killed of.

sorry if this has already been mentioned. I've had alot of people in game asking me this though.

also, I think if you have a full set of the new HQ gear, you'll exceed the minimum requirements to attempt on the new hard crafts without materia.

The only question outstanding I have is what will happen when red scrips hit. One person mentioned they may have weekly limits. In which case we can have omnicrafter status, but then when red scrips hit we'll be gear locked by weekly progression =-/
