I am a 4-star crafter, in everything. It cost me millions and millions of gil and more hours than I care to think about to get to where I am. I do NOT have 100 million gil left over What I do have is the ability to craft anything in the game prior to HW. This has been good for my FC mates, for whom I craft food, potions, gear, and furniture at fair prices which are almost always lower than the MB. The only reason I'm posting is because it sounds like a lot of people think that everyone who is an "omnicrafter" is only in it to get ridiculously rich, when that is just not true. I enjoy crafting, and if I sometimes sell items for a high price on the MB, it's because either the mats are extremely pricey to begin with and/or for a time I was simply trying to make back a little of what I spent gearing up to be able to make them. So please, don't assume everyone who does it all is a jerk who gets their jollies by taking advantage of more casual players. /end rant

yes you can of course. the question is if we will be able to reliably craft high end items without the specialist skills (most skills seem to be alternatives for crossclass ablities but there are also the new lvl 60 skills which are only useable as specialist). There might also be recipes that are for specialists only. So you will be able to use and level all craftings but its possible that non-specialist crafting will be limited in some way. We will have to wait and see.

None of the specialist abilities struck me as game-breaking, except for the level 60 ones. Those have an effect along the lines of increased chance of Good/Excellent condition for 7 steps. They're based on whistle stacks counting down with each good/excellent condition.

I don't know the specifics regarding those specialist abilities, but isn't it possible that they could be more powerful than the level 50 cross class abilities even if many of them are technically alternatives? That would allow non-specialists to continue crafting the new recipes, but at a bit of a disadvantage and not simply because they don't have the level 60 abilities.

From what I have read, I'm not too impressed with what I have seen on the new actions. All the ones that overlap with Byregot's Blessing are inferior. I am skeptical of whether it will be necessary to abandon my old methods. The rotation required to make master 3 books is ridiculously powerful and efficient, especially when compared with non-cross class rotations available. Those things have 8900 quality and 800 progress with a severe level penalty.

The unknown is the whistle mechanics. It is hard to tell from the descriptions I've read how powerful they are.

So I've hit 60 LTW and have all the new specialist and regular actions. I'm a hardcore crafter with all lucis and 4 star in all crafting classes. I am extremely unimpressed with the specialist skills.

--- Specialist rotation layout with new Bygots and why its problematic ---
    • Muscle Memory, Whistle, CZ, Inner Quiet
    • Hasty building IQ stacks
    • Satisfaction at 9 Whistle stacks
    • Trained hand when Whistle/IQ stack match
    • Mend durability
    • Satisfaction at 6 Whistle stacks
    • Hasty stacks to IQ = Whistle x2
    • Byregot's Miracle
    • Trained hand
    • Nymeria at 3 Whistle stacks
    • Finish with Byregot's Blessing/Careful synth

The rotation above is a very interesting option but the problem is this runs you extremely CP dry and erratic. I find myself with only 100 CP and low durability after Byregot's miracle making the burn down to Nymeria difficult. In comparison to my original 4 star rotation this is dangerous, erratic and CP dry.

--- How I will likely use a LIMITED set of specialist skills ---

Right now given the problems with the whistle mechanics I will probably be putting together and testing a limited set of the skills. IMO the most useful specialist skills are Satisfaction, Nymeia's Wheel, and Trained hand. My modified approach would be:
    • Muscle Memory, Whistle, CZ, Inner Quiet
    • Hasty IQ stacks
    • Satisfaction at 9 WS
    • Trained hand when WS/IQ stack match (if you have extra CP to spend)
    • Mend durability
    • Careful Synthesis II one step to completion
    • Satisfaction at 6 WS
    • Mend durability
    • Hasty IQ stacks
    • Satisfaction at 3 WS
    • Nymeia's Wheel between 2 and 1 WS (for 30 durability)
    • Hasty IQ stacks to 11
    • Byregot's Blessing
    • Careful Synthesis II
