That's 3* so if you're BiS and screwing that up on any kind of regular... your rotation is wrong.

For the other stuff you mention, that's because sellers have decided to sell it at a toxic price. Perhaps because the profit margin on HQ is so astronomical. If you're selling 2.4mil for a kirimu coat, how much do you make off of that? On Balmung they cost like 300k to make.

NQ is not worthless on my server. And Many items have stat caps that allow for various melds to make up for NQ vs HQ almost all the foragers' and artisan items do.

I'd assume RiceisNice was referring to these crafts when they first came out. The Artisan off hands had a tighter margin for error when they were first released and not everyone had Supras because of Mastercraft demi prices. That being said a NQ artisan off hand wasn't worth the cost of the mats used to make it. HQ Artisan off hands hardly sold at all because the people that would use them could make it themselves.

I can't speak for you server, but crafter/gatherer gears sold way better than the DoW/DoM items on my server and still do. (thought a lot more people selling them now ofc)

Your right that these people should be able to make their own if they are heading to 4*, but you would be shocked how many would rather pay someone like me to make them for them.

The prices will vary though, and my point was that an NQ off hand was worth less than the materials used to make it, just because of how useless they were in the grand scheme of things. You can't even max out the stats on HQ even with the best possible melds (except for left side gear, excluding the apron/top), and an NQ one will hurt it all that much more. I'm exactly right on 453/407 with my current setup, which is made impossible with NQ. You could work around this with a lucis or food, but...yeah...

Sealants go for 200k on average on my server, and the HQ offhands easily sell for as low as 2mil. NQ ones sell for a little less than 500k; you don't really need to do the math to see that's a huge loss just from the six sealants alone.

Perhaps I worded it poorly. DoW/DoM overall sell really poorly, but NQ versions of these are desynth, glamours or SB trash at best. Some of the Forager/Artisan gear NQ is still salvagable because the caps are reachable by melding extra materia, but this isn't the case with the off hands which was what I was trying to get at.

DoH/DoL gear is so profitable compared to other crafting ventures that I'd say crafting feels more like a pyramid scheme than anything else, and from your comment I think you might agree with me here. I'd like to see weapons and armor be at least as viable as the accessories are. At the very least I'd like to see all crafted gear be a side grade to end game gear and progress similar to tome gear: 10 ilvls below the raid drop but upgradable through a twine/oil.

This is something I've really been hoping they'd do. My best guess is they don't want groups that already cleared it gearing up people that can't clear it yet. However, if it's on a weekly lockout I think that would prevent it. At the very least it'd be nice to have a 3rd stat option for combat gear.

That's because crafters are the people that have money and incentive to spend it on MB (they can earn it back).. So money just flows from one crafter to another.

Hopefully in 3.0 we see some usable gear that we can craft. I'm quite optimistic about that part, I think it was mentioned that their intent to not have all the best combat gear come from dungeons once 3.0 hits.

DoW/DoM can still sell, but you have to distinguish yourself and perhaps go the extra mile.. I think I can sell Inferno weapons, there's only 1 other person on Jenova who does that and most of the items actually have 0 listings. On more populated servers, it may be different.
