What if it is a relic system for crafters - you can get them all but good luck... alts won't save you here. *Maniacal laughter*

Well, if it's a relic system for crafters, it must have no combat pre-requisites.. Maybe have it a pre-req but purchasable on the MB? (like how the pre-relic weapons require crafter to make/meld but people can just pay for it instead of having to make their own crafter)
Then that'll cut down on the time significantly.
Unless they make us just craft hundreds of recipes for the sake of giving us a time consuming "challenge"
But overall, I like the idea of having a relic equivalent to crafting.. that would give me something to do.
I have mixed feelings about specialization. When I first started, I only was interested in being a master weaver. As I progressed, I realized I needed to level everything else for cross class skills to be better at weaving. By the time I leveled all the ones I needed for cross class, there were only a couple left, so I figured I may as well do them all. Along the way I discovered new ways to make money with some of these other classes. Now, after an incredible amount of work, I am finally at the top: I can craft any item in the game. It feels good to be 100% capable of anything crafting related. My opinion of grinding 8 crafting classes alternates between "get to" and "have to."
I will reserve judgment on the new system until there are real details. If done well, I could probably accept it.
i predict 3 just like desynth.
could be 4. sigh.
I would really like to hear more on this topic. Heavensward is right around the corner. I think it would be in SE's best interest to discuss it now, where the community can actually provide feedback & SE can make adjustments before we are stuck with something concrete. We have people who are completely opposed to the idea of specializations. Then we have people who want 3 specializations (Which at that point why have specializations at all). Then we have those who want to be restricted to one crafting class in order to have exclusive recipes. So which is it? Also, does that mean that cross class abilities from other crafting classes will not be able to be used, essentially rendering hundreds of hours spent by player leveling said classes meaningless?
What was the point in mentioning it at PAX at all if you were not going to actually clarify what it is? The only thing you achieved in doing was creating confusion. The PAX presentation was terrible no real new information at all other than the release date. You also said there would be a new loot system for raids but again gave no actual information on it. Seriously, why even bother?
Builds up hype that would ultimately fall out. I was severely disappointed that WoW did not go through with the Path of the Titans when they had announced it at blizzcon. Just by making the announcement you're setting up the stage for something big, especially if it's for a big portion of the game like crafting or raiding. What was the point in mentioning it at PAX at all if you were not going to actually clarify what it is? If it really turns out to basically be the exact same grinding wheel, only hard capped for less classes it would be a very laughable set back. That's just unacceptable.
I really don't think its anything game breaking. Like if you can only get some relic weapon for 3 crafters. If just makes this crafter easier to do at end but you can still do other crafts on other jobs.
Like the 90 I can still do 4 star without it with melds and so on.
What if this speciallist thing is just gear you can get for this crafter so no melds needed?
When they mentioned specialization, did they mention anything at all about it being a system that limited what people could do on a single character, or are people just inferring that from the word "specialization?"
Also, we already have a "relic"-like progression for crafters and gatherers: AF -> AF Supra -> AF Lucis. Not sure if it will continue, with the Lucis needed for the next tier item, just like the Supra was needed for the Lucis. The Lucis quest requires you to run leves (or farm GC seals), craft (or gather) a bunch of relatively difficult HQ items, and farm Beast Tribe quests/treasure maps/GC Seals (for Moonstones). That's similar to a stage of a relic quest, it's just simpler and without an actual quest to frame it. None of that is focused on combat classes, though having a combat class at some moderate level (~40) is helpful (not required). Similar to how, for a certain relic stage, crafters/gatherers/desynthers are required, even though they are not combat classes.
