Since the new system regarding the Disciples of the Hand, tentatively referred to as crafting specialists, pertains to Heavensward, we ask that you please hang on until we release more concrete information as we get closer to release. However, it will be possible to have various specializations on a single character. Hang tight a bit longer!

Except, we'd like to know now so we know if we are going to be forced to level alts to participate in endgame crafting in Heavensward, and how many alts we're being asked to level. Better to get that out of the way now before 3.0 so we can fully enjoy the new content of 3.0 when it comes out rather than spending all our time leveling alts through old content.

The reason they won't say is that details can change between now and then, and if there are changes people will go all kinds of crazy and spout out stuff like "so and so lied to us" and "they should quit their jobs".

Precisely. In the recent Reddit interview, Yoshi couldn't give many details on the new classes because "we're still tweaking them".

I get what you're saying, and what Nyalia is saying too, but I also want to add, it's a lot of fun to talk about, guess and imagine. I'm sure we will eat up whatever the Devs cook. And thanks too for paying attention to threads like this.

Meanwhile it's open season on crafting speculation for 2.5 after the saucer patch, right? Because ... I thought it was going to be small until I found out June 23rd was Heavensward. But you can't leave us hanging in the same stage of zodiac and crafting there! What's going to be in that patch!?

    Hi Grekumah,

Thank you for responding on this topic; it's something a lot of players really care about. As we have seen with many other facets of the game in the past, Yoshi P and the Dev Team have been willing to listen to feedback and reaction from the customers. So if you could, can you please pass along our worries about Specialization? We're hoping this feedback reaches them *before* they decide on potentially Locking Out / Restricting Players. Specifically:

    * While details might still be up in the air, please let Yoshi P know about our concerns with a Crafting Lock Out-type Specialization System:

    * It may sound neat on paper, but forcing Specialization (and Locking Out Players from getting Max Level / Recipes in ALL Crafts) really goes against the inherent nature of Final Fantasy XIV:

*** A promise to be able to achieve all things (Jobs, Quests, PvP, Gold Saucer Chocobo Racing Mastery, Triple Triad, etc.) all on ONE character.

    * Specialization w/ a Lock Out / Restriction absolutely will cause Market issues. On Low or Medium Population Servers especially you can end up having very few Specialists, which make a Monopoly / Inflated Prices. It forces others to then *have* to go after that specific Specialization to save money or balance things out.

    * Ask the Dev Team to analyze how few players actually have ALL the Lucis Tools at this point (very few). Ask them to consider that it's better to have an OPEN Crafting System, and that the time / hassle will *inherently* "gate" players and they'll only bother getting 1 - 3 Crafts to Max anyways. But at least it allows a dedicated player to earn their way to Max Crafts / Recipes in All Jobs if they choose.

And that's what Final Fantasy XIV has always been about, right?

    Thanks~

I think people want to know how many specializations they get per character, so they can get ready by leveling the correct number of alts and get they ready for heavensward. Is it going to be 3 specializations like desynth?

Not being able to max every desynth created inflation on items whose base value shouldn't be so high in the first place (culinarian as an example). At first, forcing people to only be able to max 3 was fine but as time progressed i believe that all 8 should be able to be capped at 1000 while still increasing 2 or 3 even higher to accommodate the new desynth cap raise.

Without a MASSIVE overhaul of the market board system and reliance of cross class skills as well as cross class mats, i see nothing good coming from forcing specializations upon up, in fact i have no desire in leveling another battle class to 60 through what i thought were boring story quests, the armory system was the selling point for me.

If specialization means that you have to pick one cross class skill over another then that would be fine because it would open the door for multiple rotations, however if specializations means that you lose out on some recipe's, then we have a problem!
