There is.. it's in the form of time constraints. Do you honestly sell crafted items from all 8 classes? I doubt it. I doubt anybody does.
At most, there are some very diversified people with 4 retainers and try to keep all 80 slots filled at all times, even most of those people choose a few specific classes to focus on.

Also, there are people who choose to specialize in a single class at 1 star or lower level. i.e. Spiritbonder with GSM or somebody who specializes in selling food 1 star and below.

The benefit to doing that is time saved and less start up costs, and also less competition since you have a strong focus on the MB.

As a previous poster said, what information do we actually have about this system because frankly it sounds like people are jumping to a lot of conclusions about what limitations specializing will impose, what benefits it will give and what purpose it will serve.

Could anyone direct me, and/or others, to some sources so we can have an intelligent discussion based on hard facts instead of rabble rousing off shoddy assumptions?

    - You could pay for multiple accounts to Friend each other, one for each craft you want to specialize in. That costs a lot of real life money.
    - You could become the leader of a Free Company to use the common-area storage. This prevents you from joining other Free Companies.
    - You could join a linkshell that specializes in swapping goods between players' alts. This depends on the goodwill of the folks in that Linkshell - and to be honest, the main value of being a do-everything crafter is so that you DON'T have to depend on other people to craft, so this is a step back to square one anyway.
The second is done a lot nowadays anyway. Currently, the only reason I can think of to do it is for the extra storage space. That won't be the case anymore should specialization be forced upon us.

The first however, would not require one new account per specialized craft. It would require one additional account. You would make alts on that other account and friend your main and perhaps one or two alts on the primary account, depending upon what the actual specialization restrictions are.

This would be harder for the Ps3/Ps4 crowd. It would be child's play for the PC crowd. The only potential hassle would be leveling a combat class on each of those alt characters just so you could open up Leve locations in order to level their crafting as fast as possible.

No way to friend alts. The only way to exchange items w/o aid of other players is FC chest

I'd rather a game try to cater to a specific group and do it well than have them fall into the trap of trying to please everyone. You will always fail if you try to please everyone.

But "please" everyone in this case cost nothing and harm no one.

    lol

while it does look like this system kinda geared toward XI version, these all were just speculation. Just hold yer horses. Maybe the new system would be totally different and might be fun and benefit players. XD

I tried to examine PSN prizes and found out that endgame crafters with all skills are less than 5% of total number of players.
    1 meld/1 item synth - 22-25%
    1000 item synths ~10%
100 melds - 5% (i think that all crafters with nonquest tools did > 100 melds)

So, SE can permit itself to ignore our opinion even if they will loose all of our subscriptions.
I decided to wait for more detailed explanation of their craft related plans and only then i will decide to buy Heavensvard or not.

the engine is made in way that YOU CANNOT progress unless you have some mandatory skills from other jobs. you cannot make end game gear without maxing out the other jobs. some were complementary. but as the difficulty increased with the introduction of 3 stars and 4stars. i can see that most skills are pretty much needed. (some you can substitute or discard. looking at you innovation/ingeuity2 lol).

if they remove this dependency somehow then maybe its ok to specialize in some/certain crafts.

like please, dont put Terminus Putty in all my recipe books again. where im forced to buy it back when they added 3stars for pretty much everything. i hated unlocking alchemist book just to make terminus putty. it was overpriced for no reason and was included in every important 3star recipe (you needed 2 per synth). this dependency needs to go :/
