    transitioning: WoW to FF14...HELP!

Hello everyone I am Onilordz! I just started playing in a trial account yesterday. needless to say I am thinking about full transition from my old favorite mmo to this one. I have played many mmos since my start back in the day with SWG before the catastrophic end of days (NGE i hated this so much TKM4life). WoW seems to have lost its flair that kept me for so long and I look to horizons new.

So I am looking for specifically what the title says above. So I need a guide or even some videos on how to transition from WoW player to a FF14 player. This game is so new to me and I was a fan of the FF series since before my first mmo. Any advice besides the two things i am looking for will be greatly appreciated!

In wow i was a mid ranged pve raider (normals and dabbled in heroics) and hardcore grinder of pvp (made gladiator only a few times -_-).

i have a lot of free time and much to learn thanks for reading!

One thing about starting FFXIV from WoW is leave the tutorials on . Crafting and gathering is completely different to WoW and if you turn off tutorials you will be lost in the dark .

There are similar aspects to WoW, but there are a lot of things that need explaining in FFXIV. If you want to PVP I recommend getting to 50 and unlocking Frontlines, SE are working on more for the Wolves Den but atm Frontlines is the easiest place to get wolf marks.

Hope you will enjoy the game ^^ I came from WoW too and I can't see myself ever going back to WoW. Who could switch back to WoW after you can level every Job on one character? XD Plus the dungeons and boss fights are way more enjoyable than WoW imo ^^. I love Primal battles the best!

I cannot refer to WoW as FFXIV ARR is my first MMO ever (and here since beta lol) but to get a easy way into the game I recommend to find an active social and helpful FC where people care to explain stuff you dont get per tutorials. Build your friendbase you will see some leave other come but a stable core always keeps the mood high and you can experience stuff together explain each other even if noone is an expert

Any termology I use applies to MOP and not WoD as I left WOW about 6months before WoD launched, for same reasons.
Forum Tidbit: editing removes the word cap.
If you ever are on Leviathan server, I'll help as I can. Sorry I'm not on yours.

As above leave the Active Help active so it will pop up with important information. If you've turned it off, it is able to turn it back on in character configuration.

Emnity vs Arrgo/Hate technically they're all the same thing; use emnity in chat.
Additionally there is an auto-translate dictionary built into the game. this enables you to speak to other players that dont speak english. take some time to see what all is in its dictionary (or just certain phrases you'll use alot) access it by hitting [TAB] in chat. I use it for Hello/congratulations most often

You can play every Job on one character: Battle Jobs, Crafting Jobs, Gathering Jobs. Every Job so far has cross class abilities from Other Jobs in their type. Gladiator takes skills from marauder(level 26 for last ability) and conjurer(34 for last ability, needed 15 for unlocking Paladin) Gladiator becomes Paladin at 30 after doing it's quest.

The Main Story Quests lead you to dungeons frequently as well as side quest hubs. This is how you level your first battle Job the fastest and required for end game content of any type. Other Battle Jobs can do dungeons, Fates (which you've probably encountered at 15), Guildleve, guildheists. Crafting/gathering Jobs can use guildleve as well and is recomended saving them up for when you're doing that; however you gain 3 leve allowances a day to a maximum of 100.

Auction House Vs Market Board, technically the same but use MB. You can only buy items on MB until you've unlocked retainers. Retainers are also your bank. You get 2 free, each have 175 slots to hold items, can buy upto 2 more on the Mog Station for an additional subscription fee. Retainers can also be equipped with gear and leveled up through ventures. You get ventures from Leve and can buy them from Grand Company. Their level is -5 to your level, until you hit 50. You can reset it to other jobs: resetting it to 0.

SM/NM, HM, EX. Story Mode or Normal Mode; this applies to the first 3 primal and most dungeons. Hard Mode applies to All Primals and most dungeons. Extreme Mode applies to All Primals and are given the abbreviation of Gex, Tex, Iex, Mex, Lex, Rex, Sex/Shex. Hard is similar to LFR difficulty at full party. Extreme is similar to 25 man Normal difficulty.

Raids: Binding Coil of Behamut is separated into turns. T1-T13. Crystal Tower is the other raid, it has 3 levels. They were implemented in 3 different patches instead of how wow does raids. As I don't do Coil, I can't explain anything about it. CT, from what I understand, is equivalent to LFR at full party with coil being more like Normal or Heroic, with the few Savage turns being extreme Heroic or somesuch that only award titles. CT Labrinth and ST have no loot rules as older levels, World of Darkness (wod) has a loot lockout of one loot per week excluding minion if it drops. CT Lab and ST had same rules when they were current.

Free Company vs Link Shell vs Guild: FC is a guild in every sense. LS however are guild lite; they're chat channels and you can have up to 8.

Moogle Mail can only be sent to those you've friended. This means you cannot main your alts. Can get around this with a friend.

Melding vs socketing They're basically the same thing, except all jobs can make materia. Melds can only be done by crafting classes, but you can have other players meld your items (even if their bound to you) by Request Melding. Items have meld caps for stats. I dont know how it works really
Materia is made by converting 100% soulbond items (that can convert, tooltip says if they can or can't) Battle items will not give crafting/gathering stat materia and visa versa.

Relic Weapon. Its quest starts in Vesper bay after you've completed the MSQ and seen credits roll (can't remember quest name atm lol). Many stages. Huge Time Sink. Some stages cannot be done at the same time, ie animus stage. At minimum complete the first relic on each class, the +1 is simple requiring only buying 3 Mist from the vendor in Mor Dhona.

Currencies: Grand Company Seals; if you change company you will still see how many seals you had, if you change back you'll still have them. Can buy gear/weapons for any job, level dependent on your Rank within the GC. Tomestones of Soldiery is the current easily farmed currency at 50 capping at 2000. Tomestones of Poetics is the higher currency and has a cap of 450 per week 2000 total. You can buy gear and weapons with both for Battle Jobs. Soldiery 100(i110 if upgraded), Poetics i120(i130 if upgraded)

Jobs: with maxed cross class list
    Warrior:
Gladiator to 15: Skill min 22 for Provoke, 34 for Awareness
Puglist: Skill min 12 for Internal Release, 42 for Mantra

    Paladin:
Conjurer to 15: Skill at 34 for Stoneskin
Marauder: Skill at 26 for Mercy Stroke

    Monk:
Lancer to 15: Skill at 22 for Invigorate, 34 for Blood for Blood
Marauder: Skill at 26 for Mercy Stroke

    Bard:
Puglist to 15: Skill max 42 for Mantra
Lancer: Skill at 22 for Invigorate, 34 for Blood for Blood

    Dragoon:
Marauder to 15: Skill at 26 for Mercy Stroke
Puglist: Skill min 12 for Internal Release, 42 for Mantra

    Ninja:
Puglist to 15: Skill max 42 for Mantra
Lancer: Skill at 22 for invigorate, 34 for Blood for Blood

    White Mage:
Arcanist to 15: Skill at 34 for Eye for Eye
Thautramage: skill at 26 for Swiftcast

    Scholar(arcanist healer):
Conjurer to 15: Skill at 34 for Stoneskin
Thautramage: skill at 26 for Swiftcast

    Summoner (arcanist dps):
Thautramage to 15: skill at 26 for Swiftcast
    Archer: 34 for Quelling Strikes

    Black Mage
Archer to 15: 34 for Quelling Strikes
Arcanist: Skill to 34 for Eye for Eye

    Hi,

I'm also like you from WoW, stop subs after WOD is big failure for me...
Just start this game about 1+ month. (Leveling progress bit slow due to Work)

Like every1 said above 1 character can have all class, so no need for alt, pick your best race and stick with it.
Mount that we acquired from game are not account wide, but all other items from collector editions, veteran rewards and cash shops are account wide. Same like pet also(they called it minion here).

Crafting here are like puzzle, I'm still in learning progress.
I'm not sure yet about endgame content, still lvl 43 (Well cant play much... Works)
From what I have heard after one class hit lvl 50, to level other class are 50% faster because you get bonus exp +50% (no need Heirloom)

No open world PVP yet, but they got PVP similiar like Battleground.

Aggro mechanic here are bit complex.... If you're DPS always hit what TANK hit or you will steal aggro.
No add on, No build in Parser so no Recount or Skada, there will be no such a thing TANK will out-dps DPS.
Global Cooldown is 2.5 seconds it's bit slower paced and less fluid that WoW, and you cant cast sequence macro in this game.
No Flying and open world, felt too small compared to Wow's vast world.

From my perspective this game PVE is awesome and have nice story line if you follow it without skipping.
More into Social gaming experience and less Toxic I think.

    The similar class.
    Black Mage = Balance Boommkin.
    Summoner = Lock
    Monk = Monk
    Warrior = Most likely DK

At least there's no Uncle Holinka and Celestalon hiding on twitter everytime balance is screwed up.
I respect the FF14 devs a lot for turning around and making a horrible game into something good while owning up to their mistake.
Doubt you'd see or hear that from Blizz.

This game is great and definitely a nice change of pace from WoW. I used to play wow also and got bored because they weren't releasing anything new. I think because this MMORPG has come so late into the genre they have really learned a lot from other MMO's and put that into their game. Like most mmos, you are going to see a substantially longer que time on a dps class versus a tank or healer. I have a tank leveled just for the purpose of doing the expert roulette, which randomly picks you and 3 other party members to do one of the 3 newest dungeons. It gives bonus poetic tomes (which are used for purchasing high level gear) which have a cap of 450 per week.
If you enjoy crafting you can also craft your own gear which is on par or better than some poetics or cob (coil of bahamut) gear. It is very time consuming to craft that level of gear though and usually sells for a few million gil per piece.
Each class has its own "Zodiac" weapon, which is a long, grindy quest chain that steadily increases your weapons power to i135, which is the highest atm. This is mostly what I like doing in between raids. They just released the Gold Saucer, which hosts a myriad of other mini-games to experience also. Whichever you choose, I'm sure you'll have a fun time with FFXIV.
