The Aggressiveness of Players

So, I got my tank to 50 today. Geared him up to ilvl 96 with the gear i had available. Went into T6, which i know inside out as a healer and just asked to be told how to tank swap it.

From the beginning of the fight, the other tank was just an absolute ass. Said i was joking by coming in here, i messed up a spit and they were going mental etc etc.

Generally, I'm of the patience sort. I can put up with a lot, but what is with this kinda attitude. Farming T6 - 8 pre nerf in mid 90 gear anyone?

I had the same thing in TURN FOUR of the first coil just before that one there. One of the players took a look at my gear , (which at that point was all 90 + except my belt which i was saving for at the time i think it was level 45?) and said "one try then i go afk" after i said i was new to tanking it.

I can understand people want things done, but this is what comes of throwing gear at people, they expect everyone to meet their standards and think gear == skill.

Give me an undergeared person who's willing to learn anyday over some elitist who thinks they are better because of a couple points ilvl.

Although, i did have a laugh when one of the players in T6 called me a noob and to go delete my character and linked my HA staff ^^

High level content can be a hotbed for fiery attitudes and agressive reactions to "Yeah this'll be my first time here" - oftentimes because a player who doesn't know what's going on will end up making the fight nearly unwinnable (as a T6 example, everything to do with them and devours). From experience sometimes assuming the worst turns out to be right, but, frankly that experience has taught me that those who are experienced are just as likely to be bad at it.

So there's little point in getting defeatist about a party's performance until it's proven that people aren't gonna be able to pull through.

And yeah, I know what you mean about the assumption that gear is in any way related to skill. It's really, really not.

Yep, worst part was i got to final phase with them (minus a couple of getting devoured by bad timing xD )

I find that people who play Tanks have a bigger chance to be a total diva about everything i guess they have a sense of self importance but their job isn't always the most complicated in the group. I honestly have more fun in a zen group where everyone is patient and just explains why people died instead of screaming at them so they get nervous and make more mistakes. Everyone gets a bit of instance rage now and again but some people start making ridiculous demands of people for experience and gear or blame everyone else when they make a mistake instead of trying to learn.

Yep. Now I do find im specific about things as a tank , people pulling first etc i'll just let them tank it till they learn.

Now, I may mention I joined a "farm group" , but if they had taken the couple seconds to explain the swap properly everything would have been fine.

It was the pure animosity from the instant i entered the fight with them that riled me, as people were farming it with a lot less of an ilvl, including myself, back when it was still hitting damned hard.

The thing with farm groups is that is expected that everyone know what to do on the job.

That's true, but the aggro from the very beginning was unneeded, as it would have taken all of a minute to say "here's how ya do this".

Sorry about your experience, Divine. While Myrhn is correct in pointing out that you should expect a certain sort of behavior from farm-type groups, that was certainly no acceptable reason for the despondent, outright aggressive behavior you've described.

I'm with MXMoonDoggie about this: a team is a team as long as everybody gets a chance to weigh into the final outcome, and overcome the challenge as a party. Of course it requires patience (a certain "zen state", as it was said) and the basic humility of sharing information and asking for directions when you're new to the content.

Keep going, then, keep perfecting your skills as a tank and above else, stay a nice, human being. Your teammates - those who will stick around for the long run - will recognize and appreciate that.

Duty finder tends to bring out the worst in people, especially in high stress content like the coils and tower raids. People don't want to deal with people who are new because they see them as a hindrance to their farming.
