    Was the Thorne Dynasty the ones who kept the giants as slaves in the mines? Do we know how the Thorne Dynasty ended?

    They did seem very good to their people though. Ul'dah seems to have a very dual nature and puts a lot of effort into hiding the darker parts.

    The devices that were controlling them somehow malfunctioned; which led to them rebelling (obviously) thus forcing the Thorne's and investors to seal them away.

    Since this was their main source of income then I'd imagine there was an economic depression, which may've led to revolts and thus an Ul was placed in the throne.
