To be fair, my distaste of zidane might be just slightly unreasonable and even I admit he got a bit cooler towards the end of the game.

Show me one time Zidane was ever a wuss. And you can't count the scene where everyone is running around from glops.

Zidane was remarkably brave, honorable, thoughtful, and confident for a FF main character. Squall was a whiny little self-doubter; Tidus was and out-and-out whiny slag; Cloud was a liar and a huge wuss, couldn't even admit to himself who he really was; Vaan was totally overshadowed by Baltheir; Lightning was in FFXIII so she doesn't count. In terms of 3-d era FF games, Zidane was probably the least wussy protagonist.

Zidane was definitely the most reckless of the PSX heroes. He gave zero f--ks when it came to getting stuff done.

I liked that he wasn't brooding and didn't start out as a selfish a-hole, like Cloud and Squall. He actually helped people, even though he was a thief/conspirator in a kidnapping, because he was a genuinely good guy, versus Cloud, who was being paid by AVALANCHE and had to see some sh*t before shaping up, and Squall, who was an anti-social child-soldier-for-hire with abandonment issues. (Not to say that I don't like Cloud or Squall but they were both a-holes.)

Cloud...I think the first few minutes of the game, yeah, but consider where you start the game...in Midgar slums, where everyone is a shady a-hole. He's well-tempered to majority of the characters in the game. At least, he's waaaay nicer to Yuffie than i'd have ever been. I'd have stolen all my stuff back and beat her ass.

Squall on the other hand was very much an a-hole. But, that's really just part of his character. But FF8 actually shares Squall's thoughtstream with the player, something I can't recall any other FF title doing, so you get specifics behind his a-holeness, which come full circle over the course of the game in a really interesting way. I hold FF8 in high regard specfically for making me hate a character so much, before actually having empathy for him.

Zidane is the first FF male/main that had a real sunny personality...a fun one. He turned the tides with all the either
emo, serious, gloom and doom attitudes like Cloud and Squall, the rest had no personality.
A very fun character and game, he has one of my fave outfits, Zidane I mean.
Tidus was a hit or miss lol.

Game didn't get too much love so people easily over-look him.
Still he was meh in personality but he wasn't as outgoing as Zidane
and FF9 got a lot of love so yeah. xD! If you play Dissidia
you can get a real feel to the characters. If you push Locke out the way
then Terra had a real "to herself" personality...very timid, so cute! I love to have her outfit.

He was a pussface when he joined SOLIDER then every thing went to hell so yeah...
