I used to ignore them if they send me a tell asking for gil. I'd think it's someone's alt.
If a random asks me to help with content, I'll go. I'm usually working on Atma books and waiting on DF anyway.

If anyone asks me for help, I help them. Honestly, I'm more inclined to do so if they're a green leaf. But if they're asking for gil, regardless of leafy status, they're getting ignored from that point on.
There is no apostrophe in Au Ra.
Stop adding one three years later.
Nobody ask for my help because I'm also new
Wish to have a junior under me
hard to find english speaker green leaf here, mostly are Japan player.
I actually randomly examine green leafs or anyone not 50 and see how they are geared. If their gear isn't correct like a BRD wearing caster pants I will kindly tell them about the stats they need and quickly craft them a piece of gear or weapon on the spot and go about my business.
As a new player I have to say the community here seems to be more patient and friendly than I have experienced playing other MMOs. On others all I generally saw as a response to new players was "lol noob, google!". I found this odd mainly because MMOs need people to survive, more people means a better game experience, so why scare people away?
The first dungeon I did shocked me honestly, having someone kindly explain what to do was something I had not expected and I have experienced this countless times now. Although I know people asking for gil\items is annoying, please believe that you all make this game a much more enjoyable experience by taking the time to help new people and I for one am grateful that people like you exist!
I'm always happy to explain game mechanics or tactics. Coming in a dungeon/trial/raid ... Depends, if the guy has been waiting 45 min in queue as DPS for a required duty to progress the main story, I'll prolly help, unless I'm actually really busy or have to log off soon.

if they have a green leaf, it doesn't matter if they ask or not, they get 10k. I spend about an hour a day in new gridania just giving out money to newbies.
if someone tracks me down specifically, no matter what they want, ill usually get it for them. 500k max investment.
I'm the living embodiment of Rarity, though, so im a little lopsided.
It really depends on what kind of help they are looking for. Of course those asking for gil immediately out of whatever excuses like they can't afford potions for their ailing grandmothers and nothing else will get ignored like how most people here said. I don't mind giving away gils but not to people who wants it right away effortlessly.
However for those who really wanted help in stuffs like their starting classes or NPC/quests/crafts/etc stuff I will spend as much time helping them out so as long as they are interested to know more. Once they're done or have to go, I will ask if they want to add me into FL for future help (Not forcing them to if they don't want it). I don't really mind giving away stuff (not expensive) to help them get through something the first time but anything further I will just advice them how to do it so they actually know how.
I like helping stranger newbies often, since I always forgot what I did on my first day so helping them makes me remember those days.
(For irl friends who just started the game to join me, since they know how we treat each other irl I will usually slap a bag of gil, some gears, on their faces, tell them to figure out everything themselves and then call it a day before heading back into dungeons :U )
I do the usual
New player : shouts/ can someone help me with copperbell dungeon?
Me: 50k gil plz
Others: make a pf etc
Me: helps anyways cuz bored lol
I usually regen spam when i see a nubleaf lala run past me.
I hate those green munchkins.
I try my best to answer their questions. Depending on whether I have the time or I'm absolutely doing nothing, I go out of my way to help them. I've met a few future FC members that way and they've returned the favor even though I never expected them to.
If they're about to do a dungeon and one of my classes is near their level or I need a dungeon drop I will gladly help them since it benefits me as well.
On a side note, every time I see a green leaf pass by I stoneskin them
