I try my best to answer their questions. Depending on whether I have the time or I'm absolutely doing nothing, I go out of my way to help them. I've met a few future FC members that way and they've returned the favor even though I never expected them to.

If they're about to do a dungeon and one of my classes is near their level or I need a dungeon drop I will gladly help them since it benefits me as well.

On a side note, every time I see a green leaf pass by I stoneskin them

If someone asks a question and I know the answer then I'll respond, or try to point them in the right direction if I don't. For ls/FC members I will craft low lvl gear for free so long as I have the mats and time. If I have the time and not the mats I'll craft it if they bring them to me. I'll help with duties for fc/ls members depending on if I'm busy or not. Manners go a long way. I don't hand out gil.

All depends how they're asking and what they're asking for. I'll give advice freely to anyone who's polite, and I've been known to help gear up the poorer adventurers to an acceptable standard, especially those who struggle to tell the difference between melee and mage gear. I don't just throw equipment at anyone who asks, but for those who were friendly and attentive I'd offer it occasionally.

After all, we're all playing the game to enjoy ourselves, and if I can help someone enjoy it a bit more then I'll enjoy it that little bit more myself.

Thanks for the responses. It's nice to see we all try to help in similar ways.

I love giving advice en sometimes I tend to give some gold to help them get on their way. But I have noticed alot of players (newcomers) who ask for a advice and when you help them, they will cling on to you for more and more and more and more etc. In the past I had a nasty experience where a newcomer was spamming me with requests and gil etc.

Now I give out advice, but other then that, I do nothing else.

I rarely encounter new players who ask for help. A lot of new players that I encounter either ignore help and advice, or actively reject it. I still get the occasional lv 36 gladiator who hasn't unlocked paladin, tanking brayflox with a thaumaturge shield, hooded cotton chest piece, and intelligence jewelry. Or how about the thaumaturge who repeatedly casts thunder on the same target? On one hand, I GET that some people want to play a "final fantasy" game their own way, without interacting with others. That STILL is how I play Diablo or Dark Souls or Assassin's Creed. But when the guy who doesn't want advice is "tanking" stone vigil for a story quest, its to the detriment of three other people.

So, when I DO encounter a new player that wants help and is receptive to suggestions, I am more than happy to set that person on the best path possible. Helping those who want help is helping everyone. We all will eventually run dungeons with newish people, while leveling alts or farming relic quest phases. When people know what to wear, how to move, and what attacks to use, it makes a better game for everyone.

Help them because I'm bored waiting for next raid day anyways? Honestly, helping people is one of the most enjoyable things for me in this game. My GF and 2 friends will need t5 soon and I look forward to that as much as I do t13.

Almost never ( if ever? ) get asked for help though, I wish newbies would be more outspoken. Ask for help guys! The truth is we're bored and got nothing else to do!

Give them any advice they can ask for and if I can, craft them some nice gear I can make for gil I won't even notice missing anyway, and tell them where they can buy better stuff later. Level 1-15 stuff takes like no effort to HQ (or even get to the point of HQing) and it's important to spread my #brand. Plus, what's less than a pocketful of gil for us is like their ilfe savings. I've never had someone ask me for free stuff, just direction on where to go next.
