I think SE was correct in creating all of these the way they are, as -that- is how Asian games are played (grind till your fingers bleed), however without demanding a nerf for us wussy NA players, and making the game harder to manage for SE, things are going to be the way they are unless there is outrage in Japan about it.
As far as RNG goes. The Atma RNG with the FATE's was seriously stupid. I got one on the first or second try for every area except the areas that had no level 40+ FATE's (Central Thanalan and Western Thanalan), I wound up camping the hardest FATE on the map to get the Atma's because all the other players or bots doing them could wipe out the trash-grade mobs before my WHM could cast anything.
With the Animus (which I'm on right now for my healer) I'm kinda like ... well this isn't so bad... because it's a collection-book type of quest, and it's not meant to all be done in one day, at worst it will take me a week. Fortunately these were all the hard FATE's but because of timing, I now have to camp the FATE's sometimes up to an hour, and hope no idiot DPS class comes in and lures the boss away with a few hits (A Bard did this to me, 3 times, and I wound up reporting them.)
But I read ahead for the Novus and kinda going "you gotta be kidding me..."
A properly designed game mechanic will not use RNG entirely to determine a result. It will use RNG to determine the window of the result. Let's say something has a 10% drop rate. The RNG property should boost the drop rate between 10% and maybe 30%, but every time the dungeon is played that initial window size increases. So let's say you ran the dungeon 10 times, If the RNG was 0 every single time, on the 10th time you ran the dungeon you would have a 100% chance of getting "required" drops. It might not be the 10th time, it could easily be the 4th time if it was 20+30+20+30. For things that are an a rare reward for easy content, the Window increase would start lower and increase at a lower rate.
That at least would result in much less whine from people who don't enjoy RNG based mechanics. You're gauranteed to get the item, eventually, much like the Echo guarantees you will finish primal content, eventually.
