So my LS has been discussing the so called "Dark Side" Of materia which supposedly holds the potential for "Unimaginable power" on our forums. Which branched out to a discussion on Summoning as a result of Materia.

Personally i don't think summons will be introduced as a product of materia.
And lets not forget that the classic summons have been established in Eorzea's lore as the Primals, evil deities that will likely be the ultimate foe that we adventurers must overcome. (Until the next expansion xD )

But that doesn't necessarily mean we can rule out the act of summoning as a whole to be introduced to the game.
FF Tactics advance featured a summoning system where any class could summon one of the GF's/Aeons/Eidolons or whatever you prefer to call them, depending on their race.

Now, race-based summons wouldn't really work for Eorzea, as firstly, the classic summons are exlusive to the beastman tribes, and personally i like to think that there's a lengthy ritual involved too. And the only playable race with a distinct patron deity are the Keeper, and Seeker clans of Miqo'te... The other gods patronize or matronize as the case may be with Limsa Lominsa, the city-states rather than the races...

This brings us to my idea... Each adventurer will have one summon available to them regardless of class. Specificly, their guardian deity. Or rather, its avatar...

So my character would be able to summon the avatar of Halone, whereas somebody else might be able to summon the avatar of Nymeia, and so on.

So what are your thoughts? :3
