You say that but all I can think of is the name of this game and still waiting for the final one.

I don't care either way because I have my zeta weapon but I can't see SE making people go through all the old content a ton especially for the new jobs for their weapons. And the last quest's story seemed like a conclusion to the current quest line.

If they let me keep my stats on my current zodiac when they release the new one from the expansion i will be happy.
I've put in 20mil to get full det full crit and I still dont have full on any because 50% means 0% in this game.
If I can't keep my stats im not bothering with new relic quest, its just a waste of gil and time

So I went through that whole long quest chain to give my weapon emotions and a soul... just so it can feel abandoned when I lock it away in favor of some new shiny?
That would be pretty rough.

Like I said in past, SE will stand to upset more people than to please if they just drop this relic and leave it at lvl50, there will be less if not nobody will do the 3.0 quest line due to it following the same crap as what happened from 2.0 to 30 relics. All to be dropped at 4.0. Beside SE already said all 2.0 content will be playable In 3.0.

I'm not sure if any of you guys are ex FFXI players or not, but through the life of that game, and I think we are talking about 4 to 6 expansions there were only 3 major relic weapons. And once the new relic was released things were done to make the old relic just as powerful, and in some cases more powerful than the new relic weapons.
The new relic weapons came out to be easier to get than the original, and rewarded those who did the old content for the original relic due to how stronger they were. 11 years later, the original relic still stands strong in FFXI. My honest opinion... My Zeta will forgo more changes and become stronger and stronger. If this is not the case, like some say, it will net me a stage or two advantage on the new weapon, but in no way do I see all we done turn to an absolute waste of time. That's not how a Final Fantasy MMO does things let alone I'm sure they learned from the recent delve weapon FFXI incident.

Hmm.
Maybe the Relic will level with you up to 60.
Before needing further upgrades.
Honestly nobody can really answer this question at the moment.
Things we know:
- the zodiac quest line will continue in 3.1 so your weapons will never be useless
- they will most likely be the only weapons in the game with customizable stats
Yoshi-P himself confirmed that the zodiac questline will continue in 3.1 during an interview.
He did not say the zodiac questline will continue. He said that there will be a new weapon not related to the zodiac questline but players who have it will recieve a special something for it.
besides, WTB Mythic weapon nowSo long Relic

I finished my Zeta weapon, and I'm perfectly fine with it being retired in favor of a new weapon at level 60. I think continuing from Zeta would create an unreasonable burden on players picking up the game after 3.x. Or even worse... if they were to continue our current relics through the lifespan of the game (as has been suggested here), consider what a task it would be for a player starting in, oh let's say, 7.x to have to go ALLLLLLLLLL the way back to relic->zenith->atma->etc on through literal years of upgrades just to get to a current weapon. It'd be absurd, and it'd be bad design. Just because FFXI did it doesn't make it a good idea.
Is it so unreasonable to think there might be a new relic that gets added in 3.0/3.1, but the current relic will be able to be upgraded in parallel to the new one? I think that's what the XI players are mentioning, not forcing everyone to start from the i80 base relic years and years from now.
