    Fishing matters

    Hello again!

There're a couple of things I noticed some time ago, always forgetting to report them, but finally bringing them to the attention of the localization team.

    1. During Fieldcraft Leves (and probably in every school of fish, haven't done them in a while), when the point doesn't require further investigation a message appears, saying: “The fish *are* agitated. You put up your fishing rod and observe.”. Shouldn't it be “the fishes are agitated”, plural?

    2. I noticed that the Crimson Crayfish description says: “A crimson-carapaced freshwater crustacean only found in the streams and lakes of Vylbrand.”. However, I've yet to catch it in Vylbrand (maybe it's in the Grade 5 areas), but I capture it quite often in Thanalan (Nophica's Well) and a bit less in the Black Shroud (Humblehearth). Wouldn't it suit better to change the description in “found mostly in Vylbrand”, instead of only? Unless there's some other explanation lore-related to fishes' migrations I don't know about... *tries to trick the loc team in giving out some new tidbits on Eorzea's lore*

That's all for now, folks. Thanks!

When using the noun form of fish, it's one of those weird scenarios in grammar where plurality extends to more than just collection, but distinction.

For instance, if you have a few bream - you have a few fish.
But if you have a bucket with bream, trout, and guppies in it - your bucket contains three fishes. (But, all in all, a lot of fish!)

It's hard to explain, but do you follow me? The troublesome part is that, over the years, both have found their way into official publication so often that they're both currently acceptable in both situations (><). "Fruit" is the same way. You can have a basket of fruit (look at them all!) that contains many fruits (so many types!).

I, myself, stick to that standard (mostly because phrases like "Fruit and Vegetables" sound so stupid compared to "Fruits and Vegetables"). I'm a purist, but technically the current text is okay, depending on if you ask the MLA or a picky moose. ^~^~(^(∞)^)~^~^

Which do our local Syntax Voidsent follow? ...... That may be another matter....

    As for the Vylbrand thing...
Crimsons are insanely common at Iron Lake and fairly common in Cassiopeia Hollow (both are on the island of Vylbrand). It seems that they've migrated eastwards a bit, though. I think the flavor text is a "starter hint" to direct you where you'd be most likely to find them - though, I agree, something a little less restrictive would be more accurate.

For the fish thing, listen to the moose. I'd like to state, however, that it's an aspect of English that I hate. "People" is already plural, do we really need to say "peoples"? >_<

At least after the first few times hearing it as a kid, I figured out what was going on, but it still rubs me the wrong way. >_>

LOL! That's another good one. I'll have to add that to my mental example-bank.

I say peoples often...its just weird for latin-based language speaking dudes to have a plural without the "s". Its like subligar...often i see myself using subligars or even subligarias...in the end subligarias = peoples.

Sticking with "fish" here. I'd venture to say that we'd almost always use this one, unless we were going out of our way for some flavor, Luca Brasi style.
