I see none of these on Balmung, mainly due to the character creation restriction, but I have heard horror stories like these from other people.

Not sure what to tell you. I can't say the 14 day free trial game is a bad thing because it is what made me come to FFXIV a month ago and subbed for 6 months after leaving Archeage.

I would say maybe tighten up the population numbers a bit so people cant make new characters, or, only make specific windows for making new characters on any server.

That's a good way to ensure you cut a whole slew of people off from the ability to play the game. That'd be 2-4am EST. How many people do you think are going to be able to be on during that time to create a character? And before you say change the time window, keep in mind that people work different shifts. That prime time window would suck for 2nd shift workers who can't be home then or for 3rd shift workers who are just getting ready for work.

There are some really good and simple ideas that SE could implement to give players tools to combat RMT spam.

They haven't. In over a year, they've barely tried to combat this plague at all.

Why isn't there a right-click report-spam function? Why is the block list only 200 long? Why can't I clear the entire block list? Why can't I receive tells from only friends? Why do I have to decline a friend quest, then ALSO go to my social panel to decline it a second time? Why aren't these obvious spammers having their IPs blocked?

The simple fact is that SE lost the war against RMT spammers and they seem to have given up entirely. Sorry to say it, OP, but if you want to keep playing FFXIV, you just have to get used to it. I wish that wasn't the case, but I firmly believe that this is not even remotely a priority for the developers. We had to BEG just to get a right-click block function. You used to have to type the names in, which is fun when they're things like "Ffdjklskkksl Fjasssddaa".

There should be a, right click report player for spam/rmt, if someone gets 5 reports from different people the player is then muted from sending tells/shouts/yells till a GM investigation is done.

Right-click report chat abuse has uses for both RMT and lude conduct/spam in chat. When this feature is used it should mute the player (not add to blacklist) from your chat, at the very least, while you are logged in on your current session and generate a report to the support staff for analysis. Obviously there should be a threshold for an auto-ban/auto-kick of some kind that would require pretty much everyone on a round of SPAMs to report in on. Maybe 50+ people could cause the person to be temp banned for a few hours and "flag" the account/IP/character for priority review.

With this system alone it would GREATLY improve our situation. Not to mention SE should be taking real world action against these sites like other companies have done in the past and perma-banning IP access from repeat offenders and even region locking access from areas that are not currently serviced by the game. SE has been getting annihilated by spammers and DDoS script kiddies since the game launched and as far as we can tell, pretty much lied down and took the abuse.

DEAL with these outstanding issues. TAKE ACTION against the RMTs and internet firms that deprioritize your traffic and allow these DDoS attacks to occur and for god sakes, prove what you are doing vs posting a vague "Action against RMT" post.

Also, for the love of the FSM, just add a Bayes spam filter if you can't be bothered to do any of the above.

So uninformed. So sad. Trial users can't send tells. The trial literally has nothing to do with it.

That's Why I listed that the idea might not be Ideal for FFXIV. I didn't know that the trial was setup like that. Good on SE for at least doing that.

When not in a dungeon I get an average of 8-10 RMT tells an hour. Something should be done.
