Chocobo Race Betting System...

Nobody is talking about betting actual money. Betting MGP or Gil on chocobo races would be cool though!

Yeah, that's the thing - in some jurisdictions trading alternate 'digital' currency with any value at all can still be considered 'gambling', regardless of who owns the currency (you or S-E,) what its relative dollar value is, and so on, and so forth.

Even in the US, whether or not your fake internet MMO items have value that could be considered something you can gamble on is a nebulous legal issue, because once players start trying to collect it and cash it in for digital goods it could be considered to have some form of money value attributed to it. This tends to be a matter of intentfulness - even paying 50 MGP to 'play the typhon game' looks a lot different than 'betting 500 MGP on a virtual race' in court.

When you can buy gil with real money, I think that would make this fall into the gambling category for these countries.

These people that were involved with rmt, could buy gil with real money, if they come out ahead, sell it back for profit.

Wonder if they could do something like this, where instead of people racing chocobos, it's just the chocobos. You place your racing bird in, and you can bet on it, or others, or positions etc. you put in X amount of MGP, and based on your winning conditions can win Y amount back. It's pretty much mostly based on luck, but a well developed bird would amount a lot into your favor. Just a thought.

Betting was a big part of chocobo racing in XI. I only won once or twice, though. Thing is, you couldn't bet on yourself because if you were racing you were accessing chocobo racing from a completely different location. Sadly, it may not work here because there is that chance of race fixing whereas in XI racing was largely a string of cutscenes of 'evenly' matched birds.

*shrugs* It was an idea. Could just have the mini-cut scene thing work, and bet on particular randomly generated birds. Could have score cards with their stats, but with how the Racing works (at least for players), stats have an effect but it's largely based on luck and some skill.

i think a betting system would be cool. but there are sooo many complications to something like this.


here is what i think would be a fun idea...

implement a new type of chocobo race. one where the players don't actually ride or race their own chocobo's. instead everything is automated. you will send your chocobo off with someone, and they will help raise and/or race it for you. these races are world exclusive. and while you have your chocobo dispatched, you can't use him/her in a normal race.

but basically the idea is to give us a place or method to send our chocobo's on automatic races. and there they can race other chocobo's in an automated system. and at the Gold Saucer you can see some stats, just like at the horse tracks (or in the newspaper). from there you can place bets.



the idea is a bit a iffy, and is lacking any finer points or details. but i think the concept should be easy to understand.

+1 for the leaderboard idea! I do wonder if my bird would appear on there considering the repeated first-places she manages, or if there are others on my world also getting repeated wins. I imagine when the "Companion" tab is usable in the players lodestone profile, the current racing Chocobo will appear alongside their GC Chocobo or other companion they have?
