Agreed completely. It's impossible to consistently win and requires no actual skill. Either change the card pool the player can use or change the NPC's pool. Something needs done, though.

I avoided Landenel like the plague after I finally got one win against him to count towards the Squall card, because all of his cards can be obtained from different NPCs/trials.
Then I did a bunch of Odin's and never saw the card drop from the trial, so I sucked it up and went back to Landenel. I got extremely lucky and got the Odin to drop after about 45mins of games.
I won 4 of those games....
He definitely feels unfair. The whole "NPC's play by the rules except for Random" deal.....that isn't true at all. It's just more noticeable against Landenel because his ruleset makes it very tough for any win you get to not feel lucky. Swift regularly plays with a deck that has Raubahn/Alphinaud....which we don't even have a tier in this game yet that allows us to pair a 5star card with a 4star card in the same deck.
Vorsaile in Gridania has at least 2 5star cards because he uses Nanamo and Kan-E-Senna in the same match all the time.
Hardly any of the NPC's play by the rules that we have to abide by, but the others can be beaten because of their rulesets. Landenel's ruleset is just unfair when coupled with the fact that his deck is allowed to be even more awesome than ours could ever be.

They should add an NPC that have the exact cards you have...without the restriction of stars cards.... that would be great because you know your cards and even if he pull 4 stars 4cards or 5 stars cards there is a change he get stuck with 1 star cards.
The more cards you have the more MGP he gives you... thats everyone win...
Agreed with any of those fixes.....either give the NPC a pool of at least 20+ cards or make random truly random and ignore the deck cap, so if you have the devil's luck you can end up with i.e: Squall + Bahamut + Minfilia + Hildi + Nael cards (or something like that)
Random is absolutely broken. At the very least it should adhere to deck rules by giving you the maximum number of starred cards you can use. It needs to be fixed asap.
+1
Random is a garbage ruleset, particularly with how NPC decks are stacked.
Random ruleset is indeed garbage. If you had 30+ cards and Random always gave you 4 2 stars and a 3-5 star, and 60+ cards gave you 4 3 stars and a 4-5 star, then that would be ok. Then at least there might be some hope, and you'd have to adapt, but uh. You're not winning much of anything with 4 1 stars against a deck that has multiple 4-5 stars. It's ok for Random to be completely random when playing another player, but against an NPC it's just... stupid.
if not at least make NPCs using 100% random subject to regional rules like plus/same/sudden death/swap (or at least Landenel and Rowena)
Random is a fun rule when going up against other players that have the same rules as you.
But against an NPC like Landanel, this is horribly broken. I understand that the NPCs don't have to have the same deck composition restrictions as us, but at least with other NPCs you can build a strategic deck custom-made to take each one down, and regional rules help. Here? There's no strategy. Just a prayer that you get a deck strong enough to brute-force him to the ground.
"Praying" is never an acceptable strategy, even in a grindy MMO.
Spoilers: A smattering of just some of the unwinnable hands I've been dealt in just the most recent 2 hours of grinding. Only 5 or 6 wins in all of that, mostly draws, several losses. 8 stars total can't come close to competing with his 15 minimum.

Totally agree, TT and indeed this game in general has waaaaaaayyyy too much grindy RNG rubbish as it is. The random rule can only ever be a drawback when against NPC's which should NOT be the case, especially considering their outrageously strong decks. Remove the deck restrictions from random and the problem is totally solved. And/or let regional rules effect ALL NPC's.
