Materia fail

I love the idea of the materia system; but there is one thing that made me frown severely after reading the new article...

When you get to where you can attach more than one materia, if you fail the second-fifth, not only do you lose the materia, but you even lose the gear you were trying to attach it to.

To me this idea seems like an overkill of punishment for a failure. Losing the materia one was attempting to attach would be infuriating enough. But then to lose the gear and all other materia you'd already managed to attach to it? I predict many computers flung from windows in rage.

I'd like to request that the fail punishment be loss of the materia you were attempting to attach (maybe even lose all attached materia), but not loss of the gear itself.
