But I do want to point out some terminology.

The "zones" you are referring to are really "regions" as in the different regions in XI. Each region has several zones in it. (Black brush, Dry bone, horizon)... If you look at the map, you can see different colorization of the zones (I named their camps because it's easier that way).

The issue is each zone in a region looks the same, so I'm hoping that we will see the different zones in each region take on a life of their own. Would love to see an oasis out in the desert.

But all in all, I think you hit it on the head, there is lots of things they can do, don't know where it's on the list, but it's sure to be exciting.
Exactly this!!! ... Atm each region looks like 1 big identical zone, not to mention leveling 1-50 in one region is absurd. Add that with the fact that everything looks the same, it makes the world VERY boring! Sounds like the "3 themes" though will make it so that the zones in the region aren't all identical and actually have variation, Can't believe how they ever thought 1 look alike region ranking 1-50 was ever a good idea... even doing it across 3, the variety and FF magic is just not there and it's quite disgusting. Luckly it sounds like Yoshi knows what he's doing xD lol

Yup, its one of the reason I don't have a R50 job yet, I just don't get that feeling of adventuring out to a new location with different mobs and such, compare to FFXI, starting zones, then la theine etc, then the beachy Valkurm dunes, then the Icy Quifm Island, then the Jungle's of Kazham, the Dungeons of Garlaige Citadel and Crawlers Nest etc, there was always somewhere new to explore after 5 or so levels and that made you want to level up so you could explore more.

Right now what is there to look forward to on FFXIV by ranking up more when the next camps looks the same as before.

At least somethings being done, lets hope its not just some quick fix and is actually something that really improves things.

-I love how they did this in FFXI it was very neat
Hello, RemVye. Thank you very much for taking the time to create your post. I found it to be a very enjoyable read. I will just quote these two pieces, as it pertains to what I was thinking at the time.

I wish they will incorporate #3 as well. I remember when I first took my trip from Limsa Lominsa to Gridania, I thought it was going to be an epic journey, travelling through a variety of terrain and seeing different high level goblins! Fifteen minutes later, I was like, "What? I'm already in Ul'Dah?"

#5 is definitely cool. I don't plan on fighting much, so I doubt I'll be using something like that much. But I do remember in XI, going through some tunnels, how crazy it was that a tunnel near Bastok could take you all the way to a desert in the middle of nowhere. Crazy!

That's my hope as well.. and what you stated was exactly how I remember FFXI. Rona was like a forest, then open plains of La Theine, dunes, etc... it was so well thought out and different everytime you went somewhere. A lot of the time you would be fighting different mobs and wouldn't see them for several levels. It's hard to imagine what must have been going through the original teams mind when they were working on this for 5 years.

If you didn't know Thanalan didn't use to be all dirt and wasteland why it connects to Black shroud. It use to be a really green place till the flood destroyed everything

What? I didn't know this, man! Looks like I need to catch up on some FFXIV Lore. I just been chopping wood for hours and hours and hours.

    Thanks for the info, Firon.
