PS4 Upgrading help

I just started playing a week ago and decided to change to ps4. I didn't do the free upgrade thing. I bought the game again on the ps4. I did the ps3 to ps4 character save information swap. I uploaded on the ps3, then I imported on the ps4. It said my characters name, and the world, and said import successful. I then click PLAY, and it goes to title screen of the game. When I click start game, it immediately prompts me to select a data center / world and create a new character. As if my character information never transfered. I've done the transfer three times now to no avail. I'm only level 16 but I can't fathom doing all those quests over.

The data upload/download step you mentioned from PS3 to PS4 is for secondary data like hotbar setup, gearsets, etc. You should have your characters available regardless, so long as you're logging into the same account from both platforms.

Simplest possible problem: Did you look in the right place? Characters only exist on one home server. The Coeurl server is in the Aether data center, so on the screen that lets you select a Data Center, you should select Aether. Then when you choose Start, it will bring up the character selection/creation screen for Aether worlds. Go to the world selection button near the top right of that screen, and choose Coeurl. Once you're on the right data center and world, it should show your character.

Yay! Thanks. I selected Aether before on data center but I kept rage quitting and turning of the ps4 when it would start doing the first opening cut scene. Didn't realize I had to watch that and get to the character screen.
