Can you START doing something about the damn RMTS

Here is my list in photos of the 200 Blacklisted RMT names . None are (deleted) I can not even Blacklist anymore . I get a RMT spam every 15 to 20mins at clips of 1 to 4 RMT spammers from different RMT sites. The "Task Force" im sorry sucks. What you guys should do is put 3 GMs in the 3 starter zones and just sit there walk around the town and get every name from ever shout and tell you get from a RMT and then BAN that IP better yet why not sue the website that is spamming the RMT tells ???

I have the same problem, my BL is about 150/200 full and there is nothing that is ever done about it.

I believe that SE care not as long as you're paying your monthly subscription fee and the RMTs are paying theirs too.

SE wrote me back saying you can delete some of the names from the top of the list because there most likely gone . This post was not slandering SE just bringing to light a recurring issue. If the post fails guidelines then mod can delet it .

Generally the stolen-account ones never actually disappear from the blacklist, only the ones that delete-and-recreate ever actually disappear.

Unfortunately, bots can create accounts faster (due to the trial accounts) than SE could ever hope to delete them. If you're on a full server, the RMT bots take up all the available user slots the second they are available, which IS a serious problem for legitimate new players to come to those servers. The servers that never max out, will of course have a higher RMT problem because the RMT bots have unfettered ability to create new characters.

There are solutions that SE can take, but they tend to only defer spam (by wasting server capacity) instead of actually dealing with the problem.
- Can't block the IP's because they will just move to another
- Can't filter the spam, because that doesn't solve the problem, and the bots just make it harder to detect.

Like the easiest solution overall is to not allow Tell's TO players that aren't on the friend list, and haven't partied with.

Just wanted to point out, they're not actually trial accounts. Trial accounts have quite a lot of limitations, including being unable to use /shout /yell and /tell

SE seem to block them in batches and they know and are probably counting on that so they can spam like crazy with those accounts and probably get the value of those accounts back from just one person buying gil. Two or more is profit (or something like that, I'm just guessing!) Assuming they weren't stolen accounts of course, which a lot with "real" names probably are.

They are doing something about RMT... they're giving them Free Access through trial accounts, and free access through free log in weekends.

What's unfortunate is they are doing the same for everyone in the world who might actually want to try the game out. We can't have 1 without the other. There is no way to get rid of the RMT. They are a business and as long as they keep making enough money to acquire accounts, they will continue.

FWIW thousands of them are banned every month and the statistics are posted.

RMT will exist until players stop buying from them. SE only has 2 logical moves that will remove them. They could sell Gil on the Mog Station and then the game becomes in a sense: Pay to win! They could also employ in game moderators that can and will insta-ban every single tell they see. This is an additional expense that will take away from some of our other expectations from the game development company.

Ok, lets set out a few facts to limit misinformation.

1) Trial accounts can not /tell. SE did everything right to allow people to try the game without making it easy for RMTers.

2) RMTers will buy new accounts with stolen credit cards or the credit cards of their prior customers, so it costs them nothing to make more spam bots. Even if the GMs don't ban these accounts, they will be deactivated when the owner of the credit card does a chargeback against the fradulent activity.

3) Putting an RMTer n your blacklist is useless when your world is open to character creation. What they do is run one character on a spambot for 10-20 minutes and then make a new character to get around the people who already blacklisted the first.

4) You can set your status to /busy to block all /tells, friend invites, and other annoyances. You can still talk in FC or LS chat, just not recieve tells.

5) Higher population servers do not have the kind of RMT spam you are reporting. I get maybe 4-5 a week on Ragnarok.

Is RMT annoying? Heck yeah. Is it a game ruining problem? Not really. If you are getting this upset about a few RMT tells you should probably try some yoga.

With the exception of Ul'dah and Gridanaia, on Excalibur, the bots tend to be one every hour or so until the free week is up (which ends in 3 days.) During regular subscription time, hours would go by without seeing any tell spam. This is of course, because there is only a very short window to create characters on Excalibur.

And as I said SE could improve upon this by making characters have a cooldown on deletion... but it would then waste further server capacity as they would then never log off.

Simple solution by SE would be:

1) Change command /busy to block all tells except those from friend list.

2) Add command /superbusy to block all tells.

3) Block all newly created accounts/characters from sending tells first 30 days along with inability to send friend requests (friend requests can only be recieved).

im on a higher populated server and dont get all the threads saying RMT is destroying the game. Just simply ignore it. Maybe ive just played MMOS for too many years that it just doesnt phase me no more.
