    Starting on my WAR Novus

Because of how awesome the new Ragnarok Zeta look, I'm thinking about actually going ahead and do my relic for my WAR.

    Now the question is:

What should I put on it?
I've already seen threads about how parry is next to useless but there are people who hold hope for it. The majority wants to stack DET/Crit.

    Should I add Skill Speed?
A lot of people also stress WAR should get that 9th hit in Zerk.

What would be a good balance? How much Det, crit and maybe SS, oh and accuracy?

PS: I most likely will never use crafted accessories because I'm cheap.

During this blurb, I'm going to assume that you do not have the Dreadwyrm Axe. Because, well, you're working on your relic!

Anyways. I always say this to Novusers, so I'll just get it out of the way. Accuracy is never a bad idea to put on your weapon. If you're looking to see this all the way through, you'll end up with a i135 weapon that you'll probably use for a good while, even if you do get the Dreadwyrm Axe. When you're building a piece of gear that you won't replace for a while, it's never a bad idea to put the stat on it that allows you to be more flexible everywhere else!

Now, you've definitely got other options, especially since you claim that you're cheap and therefore will likely avoid Grade IV Materia Infusions.

Skill Speed: That 9 hit Berserk is incredibly important for both threat and DPS. When I run WAR, my 9th is always a second Butcher's Block when I'm opening. This basically lets me alternate Eye and Path for the rest of the fight without losing aggro. In terms of straight DPS, snapshots of stat weights with a Skill Speed showed it to have a higher weight than Strength when one is close to the 9 hit threshold. Afterwards, it falls off into the usual low rate. Aim for anywhere between 390 and 420 and you should be good to go.

Crit/Det: Want more DPS? These never hurt for those seeking it.

Parry: Want a higher Physical Mitigation rate? Putting this on your weapon doesn't really hurt that much, given that Weapon Damage confers so much of a Weapon's contribution to your overall damage that the secondaries on it might as well not exist(another reason why Accuracy never hurts here). If you want the extra mitigation, go for it. Just don't rely on it, because that's the very second it will fail you

Infinite Gil I would say Det/Crit since you can make up accuracy elsewhere but my struggle has been accuracy. My war is i118 and I am sitting at 476 accuracy with demon armor gear/noct, then ironworks accessories. I am using the Conqueror and that's what is getting me to the 476 number. Ironworks gear is loaded with accuracy but demon armor gear is severely missing it. The chest, helm, and gloves are all missing it. When I run dungeons I equip my old Noct gear so I actually hit the target.

So if I were to prioritize for myself it would be Accuracy, Det, Crit. I know this isn't BiS but I can't even run FCoB with my current gear so to say just get Dreadwyrm gear is a pipedream for some of us. If you can farm it then it may change your outlook.

Depending on how stats go, I will either be doing skill speed or accuracy, and full det. If you still get the bonus stats as you upgrade the weapon, I would split speed and acc with a 22/22

I am a total cheap-o like you, after getting my coffers decimated by horrible RNG melding i110s after 2.5 dropped. I did this:

Accur until grade 2s didn't work anymore
Det until grade 2s didn't work anymore
Crit until grade 2s didn't work anymore
    Skill speed for the rest

    * That's generally what I did, prolly a little off from that but that's the idea.

I 4 stat'ed my Relic because of the following reasons:

    - Once I finish it (60% done with nexus) it will be great to have stat flexibility as I move from 3.0+ content. My Dread Axe is i135 so when I raid I had to work my gear/food around it, but to have a BiS weapon with crazy flexibility when I don't know what secondary stats on 3.0 gear will be should be invaluable.
    - WARs need SkSp and Accur more desperately than any other class. Dropping below Acc cap for raiding is totally unacceptable, and you will kill your group at some point with even 1 point below cap if you are OT. Have fun missing that Tomahawk/SS on an add in T13 and watch it cleave your healers. And, as mentioned, 400ish SkSp is such a valuable stat level to be at. No other job needs SkSp like WAR does.
    - Det and Crit are the obvious fall-backs as Parry is so utterly worthless in the current tanking meta. If people were to decide WAR should be MT (there is a case to be made), then you could take another look at this, but the amount of time that WARs are actually receiving damage is so little and so rarely mitigate-able by Parry that its really not worth a single alexandrite. Or a single gil for that matter.
    - $$$$ - Grade 2 det/crits are still expensive, but not nearly as bad as going to Grade IV of anything useful. This will keep your materia costs uber-low - perfect for someone that wants to have a useful weapon and have a real life.

I would say go with what works for you. You can always remeld it but doesn't the dread axe have a lot of parry?

Yes a criminal amount of it. But it was still way better to have an i135 weap than an i125 weap. Ironworks upgraded axe is/was good with crit/acc, but its a big tome commitment and you have to have T11/12 down/on farm and likely if you are in a static you aren't getting the first tome/twine as a WAR. On top of that once you have 12 down you always have the chance that you get the i130 axe and the next day you clear 13 and the axe drops : D

Yeah although as someone who went full det crit on my kaiser knuckles and even though i like the results .i dont think i can do that again. Was very expensive with monk being my only 50. Although it is possible with a lot of lucky rolls and quick ventures. Havent really decided yet if i really have the patience to deal with crit materia though. I definitely have been enjoying warrior and if it wasnt for the recent update would probably be 50 and alot less squishy.
