Happened few times in chocobo racing, I KNOW the box still had items left inside, but made collision and didn't get anything. Is this a hit box issue or some sort of mechanic I'm just unaware of?

You need to get into the lane that the coffer is in a decent distance before the chest. Otherwise you won't get it. The same is true for the pads.
I've had this happen to me several times. I'd literally run through the box, unopened and boom a "miss".
And yes, I was in the correct lane well in advance. =\
I've also had this problem, I would run through a box and I wouldn't get a thing.
I've noticed that the coffer sometimes deviates slightly away from the lane it's in. Though, I don't think there's anything wrong. I notice this occurring more frequently when the track becomes narrow. The lanes of the multiple courses are bent out of shape when the track becomes smaller. I think that's why it seems like the chest is in the same lane and it looks like you run through it, but you don't actually pick it up because you actually weren't in the same lane.
If otherwise, refer to Kerii's post.
That's correct. When you've raced enough, you'll realize that the boxes are all in lanes. At one point I was kinda deluded into thinking some existed between lanes but no there's no such thing. Take the 3rd Box in Sagolii for example. That box looks like it's on the 1st lane (counting from the left), but if you steer your choco all the way left you would miss it. It's actually on the 2nd lane. At that point perhaps all the lanes are all distorted and bunched up close to one another.I've noticed that the coffer sometimes deviates slightly away from the lane it's in. So in the end it's not about 'going straight for the box', it's about knowing which lane the box is in and thus position your choco in that lane to receive it.

You won't get an item from a box unless you use the previous one you've gotten.
because server network design is "server-live" what you see on your screen isnt whats happening in real time as your client and the server send communications back and forth form each other.
Why are the servers "server-live"? because its cheapest game server you can run, but the bigger issue is that the devs continue to add features and design mechanics as if this game were running "client-live."
Please change the server network over to client-live Yoshi-P. yeah its going to cost a couple million bucks to do, but in the long run gamers from anywhere in the world can participate in the game without these lag deaths. bump that 500k subscriptions to 1mil+
Oh wait the ship has sailed. The couple thousand subscribers that have quit because of "lag deaths" in the upper tier of raiding have quit and sealed that commitment. Changing things wont do anything. Might as well keep sailing.

Client-live has a major flaw that most MMOs don't want ot deal with. That is interception of signal and chaning it for purposes of cheating. If you have server-live, then they control all the information. If you have client-live then either it will allow people to hack the information before it goes to the server (ie. Diablo 2) or upon receiving the information from the client, the server then has to verify the information making it take even longer and causing even more rubber banding for low bandwidth users.
So either you let people hack their game, or you increase the "lag deaths".
Hmmm I wonder how Street Fighter or other fighting games does online sessions.
