I think their logic is such that with new zones - including new leveling methods/areas said zones provide, 3 new jobs, and (SE hopes)the wave of new subscribers that it doesn't make sense to have players reaching 50 go back and do old content for a weapon starting at ilvl80.

I wonder will drk/mch/ast even have a zodiac weapon? (Assuming there is indeed a new relic weapon quest arc being introduced).

If 3.0 is a substantial change from 2.0 as they claim it will be, keeping relic involve the large grind of 2.x content seems a bit of a contradiction.
