How do you decelerate on your Racing Chocobo?

I'm in the tutorial of the Chocobo Racing basics and the game is telling me to let my Chocobo rest or decelerate in the Duty List. However I have no idea how to do it or make my Chocobo rest as leaning back on the control stick does nothing or pressing any other button.

What do I do to decelerate? This is a rather confusing tutorial. 0.0

Yea this part is really dumb. Just accelerate again until you get lathered and then stop.

I feel the bigger issue is that you still lose stamina for a considerable amount of time after you release the sprint button and at the same rate as if you were sprinting. obviously it's realistic that you lose stamina as you decelerate because you're still moving faster than your normal speed, however that stamina loss should gradually roll off rather than continue to deplete at the same rate as it does when sprinting.

    Yeah, that is dumb.

Thanks! They really should've been more clear on this part of the tutorial.

not necessarily true. the term, "pace yourself" comes in to mind. if you start running and maintain that speed for a while. then if you come to an immediate stop, you will notice it is more difficult to breathe then it was while running. on the other hand, if you steadily slow yourself down, it will become much easier to breathe when you fully stop. but steadily slowing down requires the same amount, if not more depending on your speed, of stamina as simply slowing down.

but yeah, when it says lathered just let go of the acceleration. lather will usually go away almost the instant you let go, but not always. really wish we could put the meter more in the center of the screen.

Sorry i don't play with keyboard so don't know the keys there, but if ou're on a controller, holding back on left stick decelerates.

It is marginally faster than just releasing accelerate.

(i also think the rate of deceleration is tied to your chocobos acceleration stat, just like acceleration is,then again,i could be wrong :P)

    you can't manually decelerate.

You just have to not hold the sprint button/key, and the bird will decelerate to default speed after several seconds (you'll notice it when your stamina no longer depletes). The controls are very basic, and just like FF7, the bird will move on its own and sprint at your command (which in turn means it will slow down to default speed if you're not sprinting). It's NOT an immediate process though, but that might be intended.

The response time and everything are all based upon your stats, but I'm not sure if the Cunning stat, Endurance, or Stamina affect the time it takes for the stamina bar to stop depleting. The content is still too new to have anything really accurate about it... although honestly, you really don't have to worry too much about decelerating in races. 90% of the race, if not the entire time depending on abilities and items, you'll likely be sprinting.

    Strange,i remembered getting it in my tutorial race,but i just re-ran it and i'm wrong,you can't.

So for the past 2 days i've been holding back on my stick to decelerate for no reason =/

I'm not saying it should reflect reality, but rather reflect what we see visually. It would be much more logical from a mathematics point of view for a gradual roll of that relates to the current rate of deceleration and would be much more fair. It is essentially flawed that the numbers work the way they currently do as you're getting penalized twice for taking a single action, sprinting.

If I remember rightly it can take anywhere between 5-10 seconds for your stamina to stop dropping once you release the sprint key, that's 5-10 seconds where you're still losing the same amount of stamina you would have done via sprinting, but now you're also decelerating making it an unfair trade off.
