Isn't modern day chess usually played on a 1 minute timer per move?
Besides, 30 seconds is supposed to be not enough time for MOST people.. and enough time for very few..
If they slowed it down to a level where most people felt comfortable thinking things through, it just wouldn't be very exciting.
In fact, I use chatter as a bluff/distraction while I play my friend, it's fun when it works![]()
Please give as an option to have a longer wait time. I love having strategic games of TT.
The 30 second rule would make a fine optional rule that could be applied occasionally, as a special (regional or match) rule. It just doesn't belong as part of the normal rules of the game.
On normal games, ones that haven't been expressly set to this "Speed Game" mode, there should be effectively no time limits at all. (If any time limit is in place, it needs to be long enough that it applies exclusively for knocking out AFK players, and doesn't apply to anyone who's actually playing TT. So set that to several minutes, but make exceeding it an automatic forfeit of the game. It should also be exclusive to PvP games, as there's no need or reason to protect NPCs from AFK players.)
I'm afraid I disagree, I think the 30 seconds limit is part of the appeal. You're pitting your quick wits against your opponent's as well as your cards.
In many cases you get up to another 30 seconds to think about your next moves because the "all open" and "three open" rules allow you to see some of your opponent's cards. You can then anticipate your possible moves during his turn. In these cases you can be playing things out like "if I were him I would put card A here or there and if he does that I'll counter by putting card B there".
And when those rules aren't in play...there's much less thinking to do anywaysince you can't see your opponent's cards, that means less numbers to calculate.
