L3 is the clostest to what you're looking for, and no i have no idea why moving backwards is so bloody slow.

This is one of the first functions i found in the game when i realized animations made no real attempt to pretend like they're hitting the target in ARR, especially on Bard. But it's really just an aesthetic feature. Running around and through enemies while mashing buttons works just as well if not infinitely better, since you don't have to circle the target.

No. If you are a melee class and you are not facing your target when your auto attack timer goes off, you lose that auto attack. It is very substantial in terms of DPS.

And you can't run through most monsters in end-game unless you wanna get cleaved for more than 100% of your hit points or stand in a barrowfield or something.
