Why is Maintenance and "Emergency Maintenance" Always scheduled on the so called "off hours"? 9pm PST through 3am PST? SE does not randomize these hours for Maintenance. Why cant you Square Enix rotate Maintenance and "Emergency Maintenance" during the peak and off peak hours? Alot of people including myself can only play during your so called "off peak hours" So with Maintenance 4 times a month, thats 4 days of my 30 day subscription im paying for with no play time... Not to add in the "Emergency Maintenance" your doing right now.... another day i cannot play Please do some kind of rotation Square Enix to make our monthly subscription fair and equal..

They have to do it at a general time, and its easier for them to do it during JP downtime. 99% sure that's the reason. Otherwise you'd have staggered updates and JP Data Center'll have access to content long before NA/EU.

It was 11pm to 2am, i notice PF pretty empty at this time and a general lack of people playing.

The majority of people are happy with the times they are doing maintenances, and that is when the servers have the least people playing. They are doing it right, it cannot be done any better can it? Sadly.

In Europe the maintenances are normally during the morning.
Today it was 7am till 10am

USA is not everything. Always remember there are also European and Asian players

Previous posts on this topic yielded a number of (usually unsympathetic and/or unhelpful) responses saying that you shouldn't complain about the maintenance schedule because:

- You should be grateful that we even get to have maintenance!
- Complaining means that you don't want or deserve any new content or bug fixes, ever!
- I have the same problem but do you see me complaining about it? No!
- The same issue happens in every other MMO!
- It's much worse in WoW!
- They schedule it for "off peak" time!
- The schedule is great for people other than you!
- Changing the schedule could inconvenience the majority of players in the game!
- It's a great schedule for Europe!
- It also inconveniences people on GMT who play in the morning!
- It's the schedule that works best for Square Enix!
- It's a small percentage of the total number of hours in a month!
- It's your fault for not checking the maintenance schedule before you subscribed to the game!
- It's your fault because you can't play during other hours in the day instead!
- It's impossible/impractical for Square Enix to do anything at all about it, ever!
- You should just quit the game and/or play/do something else!
- It's just a game - your real life is more important!



But you're exactly right: rotating the maintenance times would spread the inconvenience more fairly across multiple time zones, rather than hitting the same people repeatedly.

A previous thread on this topic yielded a number of (usually unsympathetic or unhelpful) responses saying that you shouldn't complain about the maintenance schedule because:

Pretty much all that stuff.

All servers are taken down at the same time, and the people handling the upgrade are in Japan.

They schedule the weekday maintenance to end during prime time in Japan (typically around 7pm) for convenience of their workers and their core player base.

This is also the least active times for NA and EU servers.

It's a numbers game, you can either inconvenience 10% of the player base 100% of the maintenance times, or 100% of the player base 25% of the maintenance times.

I like it when maintenance is at 11PM on a week night, forces me to go to bed at a decent hour.

Most of the maintenance at 9PM or earlier generally seems to be related to a major/minor content patch so those don't bother me at all. Usually end up going to bed early so I can get up an extra hour or 2 before work and try things out.
