Would be a smooth way to implement a betting option for spectating also, akin to FF7. Another way to win "big" MGP perhaps, aside from being the racers.
Trust me, we all want it and it's more than likely coming. However I imagine the reason why there was not one upon the release of patch 2.51 is because we will need time to raise our chocobo's and dedicate oursevlves to it before there can really be any kind of competition worthy of a prize. As it stands the majority of players who partake in chocobo racing all have a pedigree 1 chocobo that has the same star rating by default when you first acquire it. Until the population of players that own higher pedigree chocobos increases we won't see any kind of tournaments because we can then have brackets for each chocobo pedigree making it easier to organize races and keep things much more fair.
Does that help explain why there appears to be nothing in the way of tournaments for chocobo racing at the moment?
This will most likely never happen, because of the laws regarding gambling and Square Enix would rather avoid those where possible.

I was surprised by this too after seeing Triad had one. Pretty sure betting's off the books but I do think tournaments and other trials and the ability to watch others race should all be things they can (at least eventually) bring in. I'd expect most of the team is pretty focused on 3.0 now though so we may not see any big changes to the casino until the expansion hits. At that point, I'm expecting flying races too. I'm lousy at 3 dimensional control systems like flying/swimming but I'm sure a lot of people would get a huge kick out of that. Flying through hoops instead of running over pressure pads, etc. I also expected a monster I saw floating over the road one time in Costa to interact with racers (running into a mob like that slows you down or confuses you or paralyses you or something..?) but nope. Lots of little things they can add :3
Well this is the selfsame reason why gil (technically) cannot be fully interactive with gold saucer, limits to initial starting, and base choco feed. If we can gamble our MGP away to scratchers/lotto, GATEs, TT, and racing as jockey - I do not see why gambling on a race with MGP would be any different.
From how I see it, Triple Triad was SE 2.51 baby. From tournements, to dungeon implementation, to npc all over the world. Triple Triad is very much fleshed out part of FF14. I feel Chocobo Racing is very much in the "set-up" phase. I feel given time Chocobo Racing "could" be just as develeped as Triple Triad. As for now its just a framework where only motivation to put in hard work is to face harder NPCs and tracks.
Although I do realize this is a whole [glass half full] kind of perspective. Just as it could be simply solid frame work, it can also be a throw-away game type that SE has no real ambition to devote time to in the future, and is simply meant as filler till 3.0

Because it's specifically a spectator sports betting scheme, racing is a sport. When you race a chocobo you don't hand over your 10 mgp and hope for the best, you are (mostly) in control of the outcome of that race, you are paying to participate in an interactive event where everybody wins. You can not lose mgp via chocobo racing you just earn a smaller bonus on top of your initial investment as you finish lower in the final positions therefor you are not betting as you can not lose mgp via participating.
The scratchers and lotteries are based on a very legal model that is played the world over which is also normally backed by the government of a country in one way or another so there are no implications regarding this for SE.
Triple triad follows a similar betting scheme to card games like poker which again is legal in all countries that SE provide a service to.
GATES I can't comment on as my knowledge of the law does not cover this kind of interaction between player and house.
i want a ranking system in lodestone like frontlines has so you can see the highest pedigree chocos etc XD
I'd google the laws then. What Fealow said is true.Well this is the selfsame reason why gil (technically) cannot be fully interactive with gold saucer, limits to initial starting, and base choco feed. If we can gamble our MGP away to scratchers/lotto, GATEs, TT, and racing as jockey - I do not see why gambling on a race with MGP would be any different.
If its true, then its true. I was only commenting on what I recalled being said within the forums about gold saucer. As it clearly shows, I'm not a gambling person by nature in real life, so I did not know there were so many different laws for rolling the dice. I can appreciate what Fealow said and actually thankful for them spelling it out like that for me. In any case, the tourneys should still be fun.
