This kind of thread pops up every single time maintenance happens. Been happening for almost 2 years now so I don't think any more demands are going to make Square budge.

Sorry you are bummed out about this OP, just seems like you are having some terrible luck.
The only thing I can tell you is to do your best to roll with the punches.
Yeah, it sucks, we've all been there at some point but there isn't much you or I could do about it.

Maybe your personal situation will change in the future and you will have a bit more time to play during days/times when don't fall on maintenance time.
*Japanese team that shuts do servers for maintenance*
"hey guys I have a wonderful idea, instead of coming in for our normal work hours to do maintenance (2pm-ish jp time to around 6pm jp time) , let's wake up at 11pm and come In and sit here till 4am doing maintenance." "genius"
Yeah... Lol their mid day tends to be the most lax timing for maintenance
The ONLY statement Square Enix mentioned was that the emergency maintenance was to make a single item dye-able. That's why everyone was assuming it was the only reason they brought down the servers to perform maintenance. They certainly may have done other things, but like I said, they neglected to answer us about it.Err, it was? I thought it was to perform necessary emergency maintenance on the server, and while they were at it, they uploaded a small patch to make an item dyable. Just because that was the only change to the game code doesn't mean that's all that was done during maintenance. Rebooting servers, applying OS updates, updating firewall settings - it could have been any number of things that they have no need or desire to tell us about.
I can't speak for EU players about when primetime may be... but I do know that, for the NA servers from 7:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M., my server only has 1/10 of the players online (or less). I have 8 fairly active linkshells, and hardly anyone is online when I check during these times. Surely it's similar in EU, though? D: And "your" definition is not automatically the correct one. In fact, no one's is; no matter what time they schedule maintenance, there will NEVER--EVER--EVER--EEEVVVEEERRRR be 100% satisfaction. That's just life.7-10AM is primetime... That doesn't fit my definition and I have to say that, as unfortunate as it is for those who can only play those hours, I have a hard time seeing how the downtime could be any better for us in the EU in that it is in the time when the fewest EU players are online.
Anyway, here is my input in this thread:
In NA, maintenance is scheduled very late at night, typically from midnight until 3:00 A.M. my time. I don't think this is unreasonable--GO TO BED, it's BED TIME. I would say the "primetime" ballpark for NA is 2:00 P.M. until about 11:00 P.M..
For EU, maintenance is typically 7:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M.? ...ish? I don't think that's too unreasonable, either: I'm sure about >50% of people are at work making money, and most of the rest are busy trying to wake up, eating breakfast, going for their morning jog or... well... still asleep. A lot of people you see online overnight or in the early mornings are AFK anyway, lol (at least on my server, and I'm sure most others).
I'm sorry, but many of the people complaining here either don't understand how deciding maintenance times work, are upset because they think the world revolves around them or are simply just unlucky. For those of you who say "every single time I log into the game, I'm hit with maintenance," if you only play the game once a week--as you're implying--you probably don't have enough time to get your money's worth out of the game. I would just unsubscribe and save money if you have THAT many other dedications in your life. D: And, no, simply breaking up with your girlfriend will only make more issues, i'm sure. I'm positive the person who said that was mostly joking. Don't listen to them. lol.
Well... I do need to remind you of at least one point: If this is just mere MMO games, then it was quite good suggestion. However this is an MMO under a powerful brand, a "Final Fantasy" brand. Alot of ppl do willing to invest their time here for being a FF game. Heck, alot even willing to fight over for concert tickets whenever they're being held. Even MMO like WoW (which the current ARR is based from) has weaker backing brand as FF does. I do love old warcraft games, but IMO they're didn't have strong background history as FF does. Sometimes, those kind of reason are the one that makes ppl willing to stay, and if this kind of problem happens alot on someone's prime time, I guess it's understandable if they want a more reasonable maintenance hours shifted now and then.
I would've more upset (which I did) when the previous maintenance was just for adding dye option, which is something many don't really need at cost of gaming time being cut out from many subscribers. However, I don't really upset with the latest maintenance. While it doesn't gave us any information, at least they don't crap you out with useless information such as adding dyes. At least on my part, I understand that the maintenance just simply for just server maintenance. The ONLY statement Square Enix mentioned was that the emergency maintenance was to make a single item dye-able. That's why everyone was assuming it was the only reason they brought down the servers to perform maintenance. They certainly may have done other things, but like I said, they neglected to answer us about it.
Need those EU datacenters now please, that way they can schedule maintenances at night like every other MMO out there. /sighThe fact is, that they have been tending to schedule these maintenances during primetime for EU players, as well as the normal time for second-shifters.
These hours are the times that my FC is most active, of the entire day. why cant we just space them out a bit, to the other time zones as well?
Sorry for you OP, but there is no such thing as "Excessive Maintenance", maintenance is necessary to keep the game working as it should and running smoothly. I don't get much play time either, so yeah I'm bummed out when it falls during my play window. But fact is, as others have already pointed out: they do maintenance at times when it effects the fewest people possible.
~Quit moping, get hoping~
Need more thorough in-house testing or a single test-server open to a percentage of the game population.
What was with that maintenance that implemented dye-able valentine armor set? preposterous.
Excessive, hardly.
Go outside your home, exercise, watch some shows, surf the net, take a nap. A couple of hours of not playing FF14 won't kill you.
