For some reason I see the melding of a pump shotgun with a large two handed battleaxe being the most fitting combination.

Oh man, you too? I was thinking of some kind of shotgun-themed design for a gunaxe as well. Or, in lieu of more modern-looking/magitek materials, I could also see something like a tanegashima matchlock rifle being used as a design base.
