rare jet black dye not retained on gear

I recently used 4 rare jet black dyes on some vanity gear. After I used the dye I gave the gear back to my retainer for storage. I recently needed to use them again to glamour more gear and found that all 4 pieces of gear were no longer jet black but now snow white dye that I had used a long time ago. Is it normal for this type of dye to not be retained?

This sounds more like you dyed the item you glamoured over, rather than dyeing the base item before you glamoured.

The difference is dyeing the base item before you glamour it retains the color it is dyed even after you glamour it over something whereas glamouring it, then dyeing the glamoured piece is a 1 time thing that will be lost when doing a new glamour.

Perhaps, but I've never had this issue before. I know for a fact that the 4 pieces were never originally snow white when I originally obtained them. They were dyed soot black at one point before they were snow white, so why is it that even after I use the jet black they went back to snow white? Doesn't seem to make sense that the dye should be a 1-time usage.
