So apparently because the GAME does not have a SPECIFIC recipe that would account for more than 1 use of the Megalodon, the game is making a political message.

While I am personally against the practice of "finning" (unless the entire shark is used for food... seriously, the fins are not the only tasty part of sharks) and wish it were prohibited, I don't think that there is any political agenda of having shark fin soup in the game.

Also: I can tell the difference between real life and a game. I know it's difficult for some people, but I am not one of them.

You say you eat meat, well how do you think that is "processed" to get on your plate, I can tell you it aint pretty, think bolt through head, hung gutted sometimes when legs still kicking I could go into more gross detail, but to be honest we are omnivores, we are top of the food chain, we eat meat and in most cases we kill our food more humanely than most animal species on our planet that do much more cruel things to other animals. Think about your lovely purring cat that bites the head off a garden bird, doesn't eat it and deposits the head at your feet as an offering, a lion mouth biting into a gazels neck to try and kill it then eats what it wants when the animal is sometimes still alive i.e. being eaten alive...

Well, you can agree that finning is cruel. A lion will eat all of it's prey, and doesn't know any better; just acts on instinct. Bolt, prod, or bullet to the head is pretty damn humane compared to cutting a fin off a shark then throwing it into the sea to die slowly.

Hoooowever, going onto a video game forum and trying to bring in IRL politics into the community or the game itself is obnoxious as hell. It's like someone saying that the Syndicate should be renamed "The Republican Party" because they both are heavily pro-capitalist and screw the poor (true or not, sorry to any Republicans, I just needed an example).

This is an outright lie.

How do you know this is an outright lie? There are COUNTLESS things in the game that are obviously crafted, but that crafters aren't able to craft. Culinarians don't have a recipe for anything that uses shark slices, but that doesn't mean it's not a popular cuisine among NPCs.

I'm aware of the cruelty of shark finning. I find it rather admirable that SE actually acknowledged this abuse in-game, by including this line of text to assure crafters that they are NOT abusive animal-torturers, unlike real-life shark harvesters, and that the whole shark is put to good use in Eorzea even if the same would not be true in real life.

If SE was as callous as you say, they would have said nothing at all on the topic - or if they REALLY wanted to promote shark finning include some rhetoric that tries to justify the cruel practice. Instead, Eorzea is a beautiful place where nature is respected and when the shark is slaughtered for its fin, the rest of the carcass is put to good use as well. Quite fitting for a fantasy world.

You may be correct in that there is a political message here - but I think you're vastly mistaken about the intent of that message. To me, the text seems like a scathing criticism of real-life finning, not an endorsement or an attempt to pull the wool over anyone's eyes.

Thank you for reading the whole post instead of just making ridiculous assumptions. What you say is possible. But I think including the item then feeling the need to justify it by claiming shark meat is widely used is very interesting. And if this wasn't a common misconception IRL then I'd probably dismiss it too.

I'm fairly certain this is what anyone would think given the renowned work of the localization team. Or the fact that the game takes place in a fictional setting, so Shark Fin Soup could potentially taste savory in this fictionalized environment as opposed to reality.

Also remove chocobo racing. It's a reference to horse racing. Also remove basilisk eggs from being farmable from the nodes in North Thanalan. It's a reference to child abduction and human trafficking. Remove chocobo feathers from crafts, because the feathers were probably plucked and harvested from live chocobos. Remove leatherworking, because the leatherworkers probably skinned the animals while they were still alive. Remove carpentry because trees are living things too! Remove weaving for the same reason. Remove armorsmithing and blacksmithing, because the metals were probably from a strip mine, and strip mining is bad.

A game is only okay as long as it's full of compliments and hugging, like sarcastaball
