Is Novus really worth it?

Now i have yet to get a Novus but i am in the process of doing it and i recently heard that all the craziness of buying tier IV materia is not worth it when the Novus stats don't count upon upgrade to Nexus and Zodiac weapon. Is this true? because I've heard stories of people saying it's the worst stage ever. I just want some clarification before i proceed and sink Gil into this.

The stats you put into the novus absolutely carry on to the next zodiac stages, and continue to grow as the ilvl increases.

Now, you don't have to buy tier ivs unless you're a min-maxer as the secondary stats, for the most part, are not gonna make a huge difference. You could tier III's for the ones you care about and pick a third secondary stat to sink some in that wouldn't be terrible.

You can also always go back and change how the stats are spread even at the end stage weapon, so nothing has to be permanent either. Don't stress.

To me that was by far the easiest stage. Usually there's no reason to use a bunch of tier IV's. It's not so much for min-maxing as it is blindly making your weapon have the highest damage stats as though you don't have accuracy (or sometimes skill/spell speed) to consider as well. People usually say that you can cover your accuracy on other pieces but mysteriously fail to realize that you can cover DET/ crit on other pieces as well. It just depends on what stats you're getting from all of your other gear. You'd never be able to get it perfect anyway since the secondaries from everything else change every 6 months or so as it is.

Also even if you used no damage modifying secondary stats the weapon would be about 2% weaker than one using all crit/det. The difference is very minimal so just don't go broke on it.

this. i quad melded my spear, and triple melded my daggers. quad-nexus did like 2-3% less damage than HA spear (mostly cause of acc stat)
if ppl wanna det/crit, and spend 10mil for it, it's their loss; i dont think i even had to use IIIs for my quad.
rank 1-2 materias are cheap, or super easy to SB yourself, so it doesn't need to cost you more than you want to spend, and the difference is so minimal anyway.
i always laugh when ppl say: ermergerd my crit is gonna go through the roof with this crit/det relic...no it won't...it takes some 20crit for 1% chance to crit for 50% extra damage. so 44 crit on relic, is like 2% increase in crit chance, and 1% increase in dps; and then there's diminishing returns where you start to loose dps instead.
and ya, the stats are boosted as your relic gets higher ilv.

maybe a server thing but TIII cost less than TII here since people focus more on SBing for TIV but keep getting TIIIs.

As the others have said, the stats do carry forward through the rest of the relic upgrades. I did full Crit and Det on my first one (bow) but for the second (blm) I didn't bother with any Tier IV's at all.

The first time around, it took quite a while to do this because of the time it takes to get Alexandrite. I was making money by SB'ing crafting materia. When I got a tier IV, I'd sell it and buy one that I needed, watched prices on the MBs to get the best deals, etc. For my second, I already had all the Alexandrite so just slammed it once I cleared the books stage.

Second time was also a bit easier because the Zodiac quests can be repeated - you can get lights for the Nexus stage while farming dungeons for the Zodiac turn-ins.

I just finished mine with acc/det/crit and I'm really happy with it. A small advice, spam hunts like crazy for your alexandrites. You're getting seals and memo at the same time. It's really the fastest way to collect them.

Hi, five relics over novus step here...

I have to warn you, It's worth it, TOTALLY worth it, if you do it max bonuses, or clever style... And, for that, most of time, it requires munney munney...

I commited the error of put accuracy 10 in my NIN, and 19 in my lolDRG, because didn't have enough det and crit IV at the moment. Their bonuses suck in nexus stage because it, for the fix before Zodiac I'll need in total 29 alexandrites and a lot of munney munney. (Luckily I'm a bit into crafting, dammit)

But, I have three of those weapons like I really want it, for example my WHM has full det and piety, and the remaining in spell speed, and I love it, because needed a lot of piety... My Monk has full dET and crit, was first mega-expensive one, must admit, but it rocks... And when zeta, it will rock even more... My BLM has 31 det, 22 spell speed, 22 crit, cheap but effective one with a lot of extra bonus.

For you to know, 31 det becomes 38 det in Zodiac Zeta.I'm not sure if it'd reach so far if you have 25-29 on it novus stage..

Novus is worth it if you have the money, that's why, If they reset relics, at least, I'd like to maintain their bonuses in the new quest, because took me effort.

PS: Luckily I got most of materia IV for my BLM,WHM and MNK after the 2.5 hype, with them being 300k in market board... (In my server normal price for them before that was 700-800k)

Exactly like others have said. Do not go broke building up your Relic. I was 10 short on Determination for a full crit/det weapon so had went with accuracy to finish it off.
Finishing it off is more important also so you may begin the next stage, also you can later change a stat should you decide to later on.
My weapon still cost me well over 2 mil btw, Nexus stage costs you even more just as a heads up. Start saving gil and Grand Company seals once you have your Novus complete
