I have an idea. How about this.
Every hour on the hour make a pop up window that would even go over noc conversation. This window would say
"you have been in the GS for a while, would you like to take a break?"
And would have a countdown of like 20 seconds. Booting anyone who didn't answer.
This would stop afkers, and people who loophole the system like sitting in npc conversation, afk crafting, or wall running. The only part that should not get a pop up is if you are *in* a choco race or a TT battle. As you can't really afk choco race and TT has a timer on it.
Yes,it might be a slight annoyance but it would destroy most if not all of the congestion from afk
I went threw GS yesterday. There was no one AFK. Just people playing games looking AFK. Give it 2 weeks and it will be all good.

I don't know where you were but there were a lot of people standing around with the AFK chair right next to them. Might also want to check how many characters load on your screen because there were times when people were only 10 yalms away and they didn't load until I walked right on top of them.
The only option that is acceptable in my opinion is that S-E open enough server room for people... Handling issue with "if you can't get in, please try again later" is not serious. We having the same issue over and over again. I'm really bitter right now. With Heavensward around the corner I really don't know how they planned to handle this problem. At one point being a long term Final fantasy fan won't be enough to keep people hooked.
(English is not my main language. I apologies for my mistakes)

Why I see most of posts from Balmung? -_-
We don't need to change anything at all. I never get issues in my server ever. It is your server alone that have a overload of people and you still try do more alts like one thread I saw 1 week ago, and who knows what else...
Want a solution? Try start spreading to other RP server(s) community(ies) out there instead forcing to have all in a single server. Slowly I am sure you would grow another big RP server. And they are not going to make changes about login and kick afkers just because of your server.
If you insist to make new characters there and try bring new friends to the server you are free to do but be prepared for overloads and server locks constantly. So deal with it.
We've tried, we've asked them to spread, (the tried gilgamesh and it seems most came back) they all wanna group together. And yes, the problem of them making a bunch of alts doesn't help. Lol.Why I see most of posts from Balmung? -_-

This is one thing I just don't understand. One person creating a bunch of alts. Well, ok. But if they are on the same account, that one account, that one person, can only log into one character at a time, so I am not sure how creating a bunch of alts adds to any server load. Not talking about any database item load, about the server load where there are too many people trying to log in at once, OR, too many in an area alike we have here. One character, or 100 alts, that is still only one character being logged in and played at any single time.
Seems like only people who multi-box adds to any problem. Even if you have multiple accounts, and still only play one character at a time, well that is still only a single character logging in at once.
MANTASTIC: I got 1017 problems, but playing FFXIV ain't one.
Llyren: Lala Tanks hit point density levels attract small planets
Well yes Balmung is crowded but this is not an excuses... I never saw that kind of issue on other mmo. And this issue occur on instance as well. Several times the party is full but can take quite some time to pop.
So if you have no problem, fine for you but players shouldn't have to deal with that kind of stuff.

Ive yet to understand how/why this game has some of the worst server tech ive played in an MMO for a long time. Char creation locks, DF wait despite full party, housing wards, and now this. Do they even think these things through? Heavenward release isnt going to be pretty.
