Neither - I've always preferred FFIX's Tetra Master to Triple Triad (no surprises I actually had a subscription to the online version that was bundled with FFXI, and probably was one of the few people who actually shed a tear when SE shut it down).

Triple Triad's main failing is the stupid rules (especially 'Random'), and how you had to play it in FFVIII to really get anywhere (by using the 'Card Mod' GF ability to change cards into items - it was the only way to gain certain medicines which were almost a necessity to survive in certain encounters).

At least TM wasn't burdened with such nonsense.

Nonsense?! TT and Card Mod were the only reason FFVIII was even playable to me (besides the amazing score)! But to each his own, I guess.

I would actually like if they allowed duplicate cards to be desynthesized (like Card Mod) so that you didn't have to just sell them back to the NPC to 1/10,000 of their original MGP price.

I like each near equally but FF8 takes it. The fact that FF8 lets you lose your cards just makes it more intense. FF14 is too forgiving, but because you can't collect two of the same card, and the difficulty of obtaining some of them, they can't deliver the same punishment/reward as FF8 without a horrible imbalance. I mean you could reload in FF8 but that depends on the kind of gamer you are.

They need a TT scenario that's more intense and pressure-filled than what we alrady have. Settling disputes over loot would be a bad idea. Maybe some matchmaking system that remotely pits you against random player-controlled gamblers of the same tier (30 card, 60 card etc) for a gil wager.

If there's no real fear of loss, it's difficult to feel anything for the game. Not that grinding through NPCs and switching your brain off for a bit can't be relaxing. But it needs that spark.

Maybe it would be nice if spare card drops could be refined into something else based on their quality. Like craft materials and consumables a la FF8 style. Maybe even materia.

No, instead TM was burdened with a dice roll randomness that left you never knowing if your side 10 would beat the side 2.

I'll take the reliable game, thanks ^_^
