Which version of Triple Triad do you prefer?

FF8 Triple Triad or FF14 Triple Triad?

I'm not sure yet. I like that there are more rules in the new version but ti doesn't seem as risky as the old version. You could lose your good cards in that one. Perhaps I just haven't played enough yet.

I really like that they kept the same music but I was expecting a new special effects or something to be honest. Almost feels like a copy-paste job.

Off-topic question: How do you make a poll on this forum? I can't find the option.

Can't you just load a save in the original game if you lose a good card? If so, that's like...zero risk

As for my preference...I definitely like the new version a lot because you can actually play against other people. Also, some NPCs can be pretty tricky so they've definitely retained some of the challenge of the original. We still have the tournaments to look forward to, so I can't wait to see how that plays out.

Precisely this, an MMO doesn't have this luxury, hence why we don't lose cards.

Think about it, nobody wants to die, there's rules to this game son, I'm justified.

I generally like the FFXIV version, but it does need a few changes...

    1. Get rid of Random... Seriously, it completely destroys our decks, while our opponent's deck is almost unchanged. And since we ARE FORCED TO collect a ton of 1 star cards, we end up with a bunch of 1 stars in our "random" deck, while the opponent keeps 4 out of 5 of their cards.

    2. Either greatly ease up the deck limitations, or redo almost half the NPC's decks to make this not so utterly onesided.

Seriously, once you have a strong 4 star card, all other 4 star cards are all but useless. Once you have a 5 star, all 4 stars are useless.
Why? Because we cannot use more than 1 4+, EVER!
Similarly, I am at 22 cards atm, with Godbert and Bahamut. I have most of the 1 star cards, and am working on 2 star to I can actually use them. However I am repeatedly running into NPCs who supposedly give 2 star cards, who's decks are completely loaded with 3 and 4 stars...

So I am supposed to grind, using my 4 1 star cards, against a deck which is 2 4's and 3 3's? Or better yet, Piralnaut... has 1 3, the rest are 4's and sometimes a 5 creeps in. Piralnaut drops Succubus, a 2 star. Someone who drops a 2 star has a deck which has a similar point total as King, Rowena, or Hab, who drop 5 stars... WTF?

So why am I playing against such a ridiculously strong npc? Because I am trying to get my 30 cards, but I seem to be stuck at 22... I can farm instances for maybe 3 of em, and hope I get Behemoth from the Bronze packs... but that still puts me at 26 out of 30. Still a ways to go.

Oh god I hate Random so much, it's so stacked in the NPC's favor.

Which version do I like more? Well, I like both. If I didn't like the original I wouldn't play this one.

Also, can we add a, pardon my French here, "Fuck it I quit" button?

Random, Chaos... sometimes RNG blatantly screws you, and you know within 2 moves that you lost.
IE your "random" hand doesnt even have a 2 star in it.
Or on Chaos your first move was your single strongest card... good luck flipping anything now buddy.

I went to play that zombie NPC in Sangoli desert. He kicked my ass with Odin, Godbert, Raubaun, Hildebrand and a few other 4 or 5 star cards. I never looked back.

To be fair, that guy drops the Hildy card, which is one of the stronger 5 stars. So he is allowed to be tough.
My problem is that npc's who drop 2 stars are playing with decks that have 1-2 2 stars, 2-3 3 stars, and 1 4 star.
Lets see, between 1 and 2 stars, there are 37 cards.
Some of them, like Frixio from Marcette, or Succubus from Piralnaut, are nigh unobtainable, because those 2 NPC's have decks that could overpower King's WITHOUT the Plus rule. These are 2 star cards, but to get them you have to beat decks that are almost as strong as Hab's???
Or the Indolent Imperial, same thing, straight 3 stars, drops a 2 star card.

    Is "logical tuning" THAT unreasonable?
Is it unreasonable to say that IF something drops a 2 star card, its' deck should basically be split into 1 3 star, 2-3 2 star, and 1-2 1 star?
Similarly, would it be asking too much to let us unlock 2 star cards once we have 20 cards instead of 30? There are 20 1 star cards, doesnt it make sense that once you have "all of them" that you can unlock 2 star?
Or does SE really believe that playing for hours against the same NPC with a 5% win rate, due to your deck restrictions and the NPC having a MUCH stronger deck, all in the hopes of getting that 1 card THAT YOU ONLY NEED TO RAISE A COUNTER TO 30!!! is fun?

    Another example, Ourdillic in Coerthas.
    Shiva - 4 star
    Ultima Weapon - 4 star
    Urianger - 3 star
    Behemoth - 3 star
    Biggs/Wedge -2 star

He drops Blue Dragon, a 2 star card.
He has 1 2 star card in his deck.
In fact, aside from us having a 5 star card, his deck is stronger, in having 2 4 stars, than our decks CAN EVER BE.

So note, Hab... His deck is jacked as all hell. But he drops a very strong 5 star card. So this is reasonable.
Ourdillic... His deck is stronger than our decks are allowed to be by the game. He drops a mediocre 2 star card.

Anyone else see a problem here?

FF14 is quite fun to play but the only issue I have is that NPCs can build their own decks to defy the rare card limit we players are limited by so most of the time we face off against NPCs with full deck of rare cards.

Neither - I've always preferred FFIX's Tetra Master to Triple Triad (no surprises I actually had a subscription to the online version that was bundled with FFXI, and probably was one of the few people who actually shed a tear when SE shut it down).

Triple Triad's main failing is the stupid rules (especially 'Random'), and how you had to play it in FFVIII to really get anywhere (by using the 'Card Mod' GF ability to change cards into items - it was the only way to gain certain medicines which were almost a necessity to survive in certain encounters).

At least TM wasn't burdened with such nonsense.
