For chests to count, as explained in the training round, you need to line up before you hit. Laning while you are very close to or on top of the chest makes you miss it. I do not think this is broken. So far its all players errors to me.

No. I did a lot of racing yesterday and had several times where I was by myself running straight at a box and I would run right through it and not get anything.
If I'm not wrong, some boxes are actually situated between lanes. i.e. You would need to do a lane change in order to snag it. The second last box in Costa Del Sol is one such case.
Can someone confirm?
