SMN change is pathetic, and wont change SMNs low dps at all

low? If you have low DPS I think your playing SMN wrong. You do realize dots alone can reach 500+ a tick right? Then add in your pet, then add in your own DPS after Dots, and you could really be doing a lot of damage. The only difference is that is sustained dmg over time, rather than big spurts of numbers. I dont parse, but Ive seen good SMN's annhilate stuff and leave the other DPS in their tracks.

Err that's not how DPS works lol.
I'd say SMNs have the lowest effective DPS. Bards have lower DPS but their Effective DPS is huge (between paeon's and Foe's)

Yes, and dots tick every 3 seconds. 500 damage every 3 seconds is 166 DPS [Damage Per Second] When you think about it that way, 500 dot dmg really isn't a lot.
BUT I do agree that SMN dps is not as terrible as it seems, just there sustain. Case in point, my Coil static SMN was pulling about 520 on Cerberus until he got killed xP

there is something fundamentally wrong when MNK/BLM/NIN/DRG can all hit 530+ on T11 and SMN struggles to even hit 500.

Its resource management, as has been stated many times before. TP-based DPS get Goad or Paeon. Very rarely will Ballad be played in Coil situations, but one of those 2 TP abilities will always be given.

Well, Ballad DOES get played, but usually for the healers, not the summoner.
A good bard can make a summoner shine like a newborn star...at the cost of shaving 20% off his/her own DPS.

Yes, exactly. Ballad usually only gets played in situations where either A) The BRD cannot DPS, such as during Flames phase on T12, or B) The healers are almost depleted. Typically scenario B doesn't happen unless mistakes are made, and A is fight specific. Paeon on the other hand will always be played if there is no Goad available and the BRD or other Melee DPS is out of TP.

I'm curious as to what is being dat-mined when the patch isn't even ready for download yet.

Well, I hardly think this is the place to discuss it, and really its been beaten to death already, but I'll give ya the benefit of the doubt. Out of curiosity, what kind of numbers would you guess a SMN can do on fights such as T10 and T11? I don't get too many chances to compare with decent SMNs.

it's not because nexus was 2k light that everytime they add a light farm it have to be 2k for each item you need to farm light.

farming 166 light for each mahatma isn't more work than farming 2k once.

also when they add the books for animus they added 2/3 books for each IG stat, that didnt mean you had to farm all existing books (possibility: each mahatma is tied to a stat and you only need to farm those for the stats on your weapon)

Well, throwing back the same argument on why BRD's DPS is on the bottom of the food chain back to the SMNs - you guys have more mobility than your brother BLM and access to Ruin II

I guess it is a trend - when you are given mobility, you have to eat some dent to your DPS potential.

Ive cleared FCoB and parsed above 480 on every turn so yeah I know how to play SMN. I'll grant that outside of coil SMN is really good on many fights. But at the end of the day our sustained single target damage is pathetically low, there is something fundamentally wrong when MNK/BLM/NIN/DRG can all hit 530+ on T11 and SMN struggles to even hit 500.
