Easiest way to find out is to download the benchmark program and try =) Find it here.
Just from those specs, however, I don't see that many problems. But it also depends on the GPU they have. (And the OS, of course, though the number of people running WinXP these days isn't probably that big.)
If a ps3 can run this, then a laptop can I'm sure

it might be laggy on the lowest possible settings
Graphics Card: Intel HD Graphics 3000, thats an old intergrated GPU, and even the newer ones really dont handle the game at all
my gf runs it on my old laptop, yes it has better specs but nothing marginally greater, she runs it pretty fine, she gets some issues during SUPER crowded areas like a hunt, and some issues in titan ex and coerthas but thats bout it, apart from that shes cleared all the content so far except for final coil, your friend should be fine.
That particular laptop's GPU is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6490M. It's not great, and the processor isn't too impressive either (remember, while an i7 is usually pretty awesome, -M models tend to be a lot weaker.)
That said, it's a modest bit better than the only laptop I've ever tried the game on. Said laptop wasn't quite good enough to run the game, but your roommate's might fare better. Expect low resolution, low settings, and plenty of lag in populated areas, though.
In the end, the benchmark program is definitely the way to go.
Never mind the benchmark, just go for the two week free trial thing. Playing the game will give you a better idea than the benchmark will.
