    Non-Verbose Please !!

I really admire all the work SE puts into the story line, unfortunately for me English is not my first language, and i am not a fast reader at all. I try to read the story in quests and mission but i lose concentration of what I'm reading very quickly....

In old Final Fantasys the story wording was to the point and I was still able to connect with the characters and plot very well. I would love to connect more with the characters and story in XIV as well but i just find myself blazing though text and exiting cut scenes.

For us less literate people or even people that don't have as much time to play, It would be great to have a Non-Verbose mode in mission and quest story lines.

You do, it is call "skip cut scene", then just read the next mission objective.

Thanks for your input that is an option but I'd still like to read and see the scene at the same time, like i said if it was something like older Final Fantasy's... it would give a better experience for people that want to get into the story.

This would, frankly, be a waste of resources. If you want the older FF games for their stories, they're still available for play. The thoroughness and detail of the lore and dialogue in FFXIV is one of its better traits. Besides, most players are barely-literate as it is and can't spell "than" to save their lives. We don't need LESS.

FFVIII and IX were verbose compared to the games that preceded and succeeded them.

The irony is the writing prior to 8 was limited by hardware; when the hardware improved, the games following 9 were limited by voice acting. The only exceptions? MMOs.

Squenix takes their MMO worldbuilding very seriously, if the staff is any indication. I'm sure there's a wiki somewhere that has a digest if you need it, and you can always rewatch the scene as many times as you like from the inn.

There's only so many times I can be asked to deliver soup before I too get tired of the 'srs world building.'

So click on through and just do the quests. If you don't like reading in an mmo you'd hardly be the first. I'm not saying the quest structure of this game (and many others) doesn't have issues since it really does, but that's a different discussion.

I don't really think that there's much ground in complaining about the writing of English server quests when English isn't your first language. You are not the target audience. I don't switch French on in my duty finder and ask my party members to speak more simple French because it's not my first language.

I know it sounds mean, but it's unwise to base perceptions of a game played by millions on your unique experiences; sometimes it's good to cater to others(Hey, colorblind support!), but in your case this could be remedied by... well... reading. And a dictionary, maybe a thesaurus. Or looking up a story synopsis online. Or going to your room in the inn and reading the book therein, that recaps all the quests you've completed for you at your own pace.

    Just saying man, there's options.

I have to agree: the OP's request isn't reasonable.

The localization team may be fond of slightly antiquated English, but asking for it to be simplified is like playing with the JP client and requesting that archaic and otherwise non-standard Japanese be converted to newscaster Japanese for ease of understanding.

You can go back and watch cutscenes in your Inn room.
