    Fix fishing please

Ok, so here's my situation. Rank 16 fisher, fishing in grade 2. 70 in all my stats, Gathering is at 25, Output at 23, Percetion at 20. Using Goby Balls and fishing at the waters south of Camp Skull Valley (Pretty sure I'm using the right bait, as it says they're biting on Goby Balls). However, every time I fish I get one jig, maybe two if I'm lucky. None of my other DoLs are this luck based. I'm just trying to get some helmet crabs for the guild task, but most of my casts fail on the first jig.

Why is it that Fishing is so screwy and messed up and infuriating? I have to wonder how anyone can stand to level it when it's entirely luck based whether you get anything or not (since it fails after one jig regardless of stats it seems...)

    Fishing works fine.

Its not as luck based as you think, you are simply doing a poor bait/location combo.

Try any "fly" lure in any freshwater location in uldah at -4 or -5 depth.

    Also;
Please don't jump to conclusions that things "need fixing" before you try other options. There is a big problem of "assuming" before "trying" on these forums.

Not a fishing expert, but I think those instances like you're talking about means you're regularly hooking fish that are much higher rank than you. Because even at low grades, certain higher rank fish may show up there. In those cases you'll only get the 1 or 2 shots and then it's gone.

    Another possibility is gathering fatigue.

It says the fish are biting on my bait: That means I'm using the correct choice right? And I'm fairly certain this is not gathering fatigue, unless that kicks in after only 2 fish. Random rank 50 items in a rank 10 camp might be an answer... but that still seems rather ridiculous.

Also, I did do some searching before I made this post. Other posts I found which had my same problem attributed it to "jig lag" glitches and other unfair things.

Although I believe you use the right bait, can you post the general location where you were fishing? Not sure if there were freshwater points around Skull Valley, but if there is that might be the problem since Goby Ball is for saltwater. If you are fishing from the cliff though then you're in the correct spot.

If it's not the gathering fatigue then it's probably the issue of not being high enough rank for whatever you're hooking. Could be that it's actually the helmet crabs you're aiming for that are too high for you at the moment?

Of course that's assuming you're not waiting too long after you hook them. That's where that jig lag stuff comes into play I think.

I was indeed fishing off the cliff, at the little bay between Aleport and Swiftperch Tower.

Honestly I want to know who think gameplay during fishing is better than in XI?

Speak up and please explain why you feel that way.

I have huge trouble understanding why they took skill and gameplay out of a functioning minigame. Fishing in XI felt like actual fishing now it's just a bunch of menus to click through like every crafting class.

I hope they make the crafting into more game-like experiences someday.

You are getting bite on fish higher level than you. Fish level is not exactly related to fish spot grade, and some area just not good spot to grind on.

i have to agree with this being the most likely scenario. there's times when you get the in between the ranks for the fish in the area. you catch certain fish quite easily, but you are just high enough to get bites by the larger fish. the first jig on them results in lost fish.

i remember having this problem when i got higher than hammerhead sharks and still below black sole in the uldah boat ramp. one is mid 20's fish and the other is mid 40's fish in the same grade water.

this is likely the issue you are running into atm since goby balls are the correct bait to be used saltwater fishing in skull valley. it may not be the best, but it is a correct one. the best bait to use there is either spoon lures or floating minnows. try those and see if it helps any. at your rank i imagine the minnows would be your better choice.
