As other said the flying mounts will only be for the new areas and 2.0 area will not be able to use them.

The reason behind this is that the 3.0 areas are planned to have little amount of Aetherytes and a lot of land areas will require players to have a flying mount to reach since those areas are not close to any Aetherytes and are in areas that can't be reached by foot.

As for Personal Airships and FC Airships, during early info about them around 2.0 timeframe it was mentioned they had plans to make Personal and FC airship customizable. However, this plan may have changed due to time and resource reasons so take this promise with a bit of salt since things change a lot from their original plans.

I agree that danger in the open world is a lot of fun, but flying mounts can't take away what we don't already have. At level 50 there's no normally spawning monster in the game that can kill a player character, even if they gang up on us in huge groups. So it won't be as if flying mounts can make traveling through a zone any easier than it is already.

    That's a terrible idea.

Airships are still cheaper than teleporting (even if the gil required for teleports is next to nothing) but the main function of it is for immersion (as small as it is).

I actually still use airships and use my mounts to run around, but teleports are incredibly convenient when I'm short on time. I don't want to go back to a traveling system based on wasting your time.

As for the "thrill" of going through high level zones, that's a load of BS. I actually played FFXI for years. No one was going "MGSing through these zones is awesome!", but plenty were going "Who caught agro? *groan* Be careful and stop wasting our time."

I didn't think of that. As long as it just slows us down and doesn't like, drop us out of the sky or something, I can manage. I'll grumble about it, but I'll manage. xD

Am I the only one that remembers YoshiP saying that Flying mounts will be Slow at the fanfests? Or has he since recanted? Because I'm sure I remember him saying they would just have walking and not running pace.

I'm not sure why, but something about that actually sounds amazing to me. Fly a little too close to the beastman stronghold and they start shooting things at you, get hit and you fall to your death...sounds fun

Totally agree, i still use airships. I try to use teleports as little as possible. I liked 1.0 waiting for airships and ferries, and i understand others may not like the wait. I like the immersion and Eorzea's vast and beautiful landscape, so i prefer to take the longer route. To each their own.
